Successful network marketers must have a sure foundation of how to present the business. This MLM training tip shares a professional presentation technique you can use to get the results you’ve been looking for…more people signing up in your business.

I received a question from Andrea that reads:

“Tim, how would you handle this objection?

‘If it is M.L.M I am not interested as I do not have the time and do not want to pressurize friends and family into buying from me. Nor do I have the money to spend $100.00 on advertising. And I do not want to go out talking to people/harassing people.’”

In my M.L.M. training program, Professional Inviter, I teach how to answer these two objections (“don’t like sales” and “money objection”).

I’d like to share something with you that will help with this.

Just a couple of days ago I was working in my home office and heard a knock at my door. I got up and opened it. Two young girls were standing on my doorstep fidgeting. They live next door to me and I had seen them around several times.

Girl A starts talking while Girl B watches her – she seemed the more “shy” one. Girl A says, “We’re Girl Scouts and we’re raising money for our troop. Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?” She then looks at Girl B and nods. Girl B looks at me and says, “They’re really good!” Obviously they had rehearsed their lines before they knocked on the door.

I said, “Oh I know how good Girl Scout cookies are. But I typically don’t eat sweets.”

They looked at each other confused, waiting on the other to respond (I don’t think they rehearsed what to say to that objection).

The one girl who was doing most of the talking said, “Okay” and they turned and walked away.

Early the next morning a light tap on my door caused me to wonder if someone was at the door, or if the wind was blowing hard. I opened it to see. The “shy” girl from yesterday was standing there, looking like she was on her way to school. She looked up and confessed, “I’m not supposed to eat sweets either – but I sometimes do.” She turned and walked down the sidewalk.

Don’t ever under estimate the power of a perfectly communicated concept.

You see, when I pictured cookies in my mind – I pictured having to run down the beach to burn the calories off. I also pictured the guilty feelings associated with eating them. Though hard for many people to believe, I had a bad picture of cookies! What this girl did was CHANGE WHAT I PICTURED ABOUT COOKIES! She made eating them “sometimes” okay. Very simply, the girl presented me a different picture. So I bought 7 boxes

Since the focus of this M.L.M. training article is teaching you presenting, I wanted to share this story with you so you can see the concept of what presenting is.

Typically when you get the “I don’t want to do sales” objection you would try to find out what they’re looking at on the subject of sales. In essence, “What in your view is wrong with talking to friends about something they need?” Then, you take up that topic and help facilitate them viewing it a different way.

So you can hammer through an objection (like in the above paragraph), but other times you can simply give someone a different view than what they’re looking at as in the example I gave you about the Girl Scout. Certainly if this girl would have tried to go head to head with me on the subject of sugar she couldn’t have gotten very far. But what she did was cause me to look at what is fun about eating cookies.

Helping people get a different picture is what presenting is all about!

In this helpful M.L.M training tip I’ve given you two different ways to handle this objection – I hope it helps you in the future.

how does the article make distinction between firms? use these distionctions to analyze and gain insights?
Abstract (Summary)
Instead, Giancarlo Di Risio, Versace's bespectacled chief executive, presided over an evening that highlighted luxury goods: Parked at one end of the courtyard was a half-million-dollar Lamborghini Murcielago with a black-and-white leather interior by Versace. A huge poster showed an AgustaWestland helicopter with a Versace-designed cabin. Stacked nearby was luggage embossed with the brand's Greek motif, with pieces starting at about $4,000.
The company found it increasingly tough to squeeze profits out of highly perishable fashions as production costs rose in Italy. In 1997, Mr. Versace was murdered outside his Miami villa. The firm's finances went into a tailspin, and it was forced to shelve plans to go public. Mr. Versace's 50% stake in the label went to his niece, Ms. Versace's then-preteen daughter Allegra Versace Beck, shifting the balance of power. Though Ms. Versace owns only 20% of the company, she was seen to exert huge influence because of her daughter's stake. A third sibling, Santo Versace, owns the remaining 30% of the company. Ms. Versace Beck, now 20 years old, manages her stake with the help of advisers.
"I said to Di Risio, 'This is not going to work. This is going to die,'" recalled Ms. Versace. But, she said, "I was wrong, and he was right. We sell more now."
Milan — When Italian fashion house Gianni Versace SpA recently threw a cocktail party in the courtyard of its 16th-century palazzo to promote its latest creations, designer Donatella Versace ducked out of the soiree early, flanked by bodyguards.
Mr. Di Risio is trying to shift Versace's attention away from clothes and to accessories, home interiors and other lifestyle products that will bring in new streams of revenue and offset fickle fashion cycles. "Fashion does not exist at Versace," he said, describing his strategy in an interview before the reception.
The new approach is bearing fruit. Versace swung back into the black last year, posting a $25.4 million profit after years of losses, and has shaken off millions in debt. Driving that turnaround were rising sales in the lucrative accessories Mr. Di Risio is pushing.
Yet the effects of the makeover have touched the core of the company's identity. Ms. Versace has begun taming the flamboyant clothing designs that once set her and the fashion house apart from the crowd. "I no longer recognize myself in that kind of woman," the 52-year-old Ms. Versace said in a telephone interview.
The culture shift at Versace highlights how an increasingly competitive fashion industry is forcing even the most freewheeling players to embrace a corporate culture. Many labels, including LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton's smaller brands like Celine and Marc Jacobs, have also been toning down their looks to appeal to a wider swath of consumers. Designers who once called the shots are ceding authority to executives who run the numbers.
"In the beginning, it was a shock for me," Ms. Versace said. "When you tell a person who is used to being in power — to saying yes or no on everything — to take a step back, it's not easy. But it was necessary."
Tweaking a label's aesthetics carries risks. If pushed too far, transformations risk alienating loyal customers, says Robert Burke, head of New York-based luxury-goods consultancy Robert Burke Associates and the former fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman. "You will always want to see a fashion edge to Versace," he says.
Yet for family-owned fashion labels like Versace, pressure to make more money is high. They compete with publicly traded conglomerates such as LVMH and PPR SA's Gucci Group, which have the financial heft to expand with stores in the emerging markets of China, India and Russia — seen as fueling the industry's growth.
A number of Italy's top family-owned fashion houses, including Versace, Prada SpA and Salvatore Ferragamo SpA, are considering stock- market listings in the next couple of years. "An IPO would be the best way to raise money and implant in these countries," says Peter Farren, a luxury-goods analyst at the French investment firm Bryan Garnier.
At Versace, a sobering realization is spurring Mr. Di Risio's moves: The clothes that once made the brand are now struggling to make money.
In its heyday in the early 1990s, Versace stayed ahead of the fashion mainstream with lavish catwalk shows that celebrated the racy designs of founder Gianni Versace. The label amassed collections of real estate and artwork that enhanced the family's jet-setter status.
The Versace stakeholders decided the company needed a CEO who could turn the company around. Fabio Cacciatori, at one time an outside financial consultant for the company, became CEO in September 2003 but resigned in December. The company named Versace's then-Chief Financial Officer Daniele Ballestrazzi interim CEO as it searched for new leadership.
When Versace recruited Mr. Di Risio from LVMH's Fendi label in the summer of 2004, the house was saddled with more than $146 million in debt and heading to a net loss of $124 million for the year, on revenue of $416 million. High-end retailers like Bergdorf Goodman had stopped carrying the brand.
Bergdorf Chief Executive Jim Gold recalls that Versace was distributing too widely, diluting its exclusivity, and was overly consumed with making a splash on the runway. While many labels had started delivering retailers fresh designs more frequently, ahead of the runway collections, Versace resisted.
Mr. Di Risio arrived with a new mantra. Clothing that is too fashionable, he told his lieutenants, is bad for business because it eats up capital and goes out of style quickly. Accessories and other leather goods are a better bet because they have a longer shelf life and fatter profit margins.
To reduce Versace's dependence on fashion, Mr. Di Risio shut down lines such as Versace Intimates lingerie and Versace Young, a children's line. The company sold its unprofitable perfume, jewelry and watchmaking divisions, replacing them with lucrative licensing agreements with U.S. watch group Timex Corp. and Italian perfume and cosmetics maker EuroItalia Srl.
Mr. Di Risio homed in on the company's shoes and handbags, which have higher profit margins because they cost less to produce than clothes but are easier to sell to a wide array of customers. Last year, more than 30% of Versace's $383 million in revenue came from accessories, compared with 4% when Mr. Di Risio arrived.
He also expanded the label's push into home furnishings — a business that generated sales of $82.5 million in 2006, up 55% from the year before. Versace recently unveiled its "Jet Seat," an aerodynamically-styled leather chair in a high-tech ceramic frame that is sold in Europe for <euro>38,000 (about $50,000).
"It was like taking a blank page and rewriting everything," Mr. Di Risio says.
To succeed, however, he had to get Ms. Versace on board. She had hoped to resurrect the costly haute-couture fashion shows the label had discontinued before Mr. Di Risio's arrival. But he argued she could more effectively enhance the line's exclusivity by holding showings for individual clients.
"I said to Di Risio, 'This is not going to work. This is going to die,'" recalled Ms. Versace. But, she said, "I was wrong, and he was right. We sell more now."
Ms. Versace had to become more conscious of how much time and money the label invests in promoting designs at events like the Oscars. Last year, the designer dressed actresses Hilary Swank, Uma Thurman and Salma Hayek and director Robert Altman's wife, Kathryn Reed Altman, who donned a navy-blue sequin gown.
This year, however, Ms. Versace limited herself to one gown, designing a rose-colored dress with a sweeping train for best-actress nominee Penelope Cruz.
For Versace's ready-to-wear line, Ms. Versace is going for looks she calls "a little more understated." Bergdorf Goodman will carry her designs in the fall for the first time in years.
Ms. Versace is also working more closely with retailers, adding four more collections beyond the traditional spring and fall runway collections. These are shown to retailers in private visits, giving them a preview of what to expect.
On the financial side, Mr. Di Risio has untangled the company's assets from those of the family, selling property he deemed "nonstrategic" to pay the company's debts. The family's Manhattan townhouse was sold for about $35 million, and its contents went up for auction in 2005. The paintings alone — including works by artists Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein and Julian Schnabel — fetched more than $11 million dollars.
Flagship stores in New York, London and Milan that Mr. Di Risio described as "decadent and sad," were redone with sleek, minimalist designs.
The label, which operates 82 stores and has 35 franchise operations, plans to open more than 10 boutiques by the end of the year, including seven stores in China alone. When Versace opened the doors of its updated Moscow boutique in April, an array of leather bags, belts and shoes greeted customers at the store's lacquered ground-floor entrance. The label's ready-to-wear collection was relegated to the upper floor.

Have you ever experienced a loss for words when a prospect asks you “Is this one of those pyramids?” or “Is this like Amway or Mary Kay?” Perhaps you said the wrong thing and lost their attention. Your prospects will always have objections about your MLM business, but with the right MLM training techniques, you can easily resolve them when you follow these 5 steps.

This discussion on handling questions and objections only deals with those objections that come up during an invite call; as in the first time you talk to a prospect and are inviting them to look at your MLM business.

Let’s start off with defining what “Handle Questions and Objections” means.

Definition of “Handle:” to deal with effectively (there are a lot of replies out there, but they don’t handle the question or objection).

Definition of “Questions:” something asked.

Definition of “Objections:” expressed or unexpressed opposition (to be against or resistant to).

The purpose of Handling Questions and Objections is to get the prospect beyond their question(s) and/or opposition(s), which are currently stopping them from attaining what they stated they need, want or don’t want as it pertains to your network marketing business.

When your prospect doesn’t do what you’ve asked them to do (like listen to a CD or attend an MLM business briefing) he/she has an unresolved question and/or objection. There are two kinds of questions and/or objections:

EXPRESSED – when your prospect expresses a question or objection, be very thankful! It’s one you don’t have to DIG UP! (Example: My sister tried a network marketing business and she failed.)

UNEXPRESSED – when your prospect withholds their questions or objections. Your job is to locate and remove the unexpressed questions and objections. (Example: Your prospect doesn’t show up to a follow-up appointment.)

These questions and objections, whether expressed or unexpressed, can stop and ARE stopping your prospect from getting what he/she has stated they want (more money, work from home, etc). So you need to effectively handle these.

I can assure you, if you don’t handle the questions and objections now, they will linger in your prospect’s mind; even if they still sign up in your network marketing business! It’s happened in my business: I sign someone up; we go through all of the MLM training together; my new person seems excited about network marketing, and then all of the sudden, she’s nowhere to be found; doesn’t answer my calls and won’t return them. Most times, they disappear because of an unexpressed objection or question I didn’t resolve when I first introduced them to my MLM business.

There is a formula for handling questions and objections. The reason a formula is necessary is because it helps you do all the necessary steps to effectively handle the objection. If you just “give the reply,” you can miss all the other necessary steps to HANDLE the question or objection and worse, you can upset or give extra strength to their objection. Many, many times I’ve seen the objection fizzle to nothing just by properly doing the first three steps of the “Objections Remedy Formula.”

OBJECTIONS REMEDY FORMULA

Step 1. Listen completely through the question/objection.

Purpose: So you are sure you get the correct objection, and for you to respect the prospect’s right to communicate a full thought without you feeling your thought is more important.

Step 2. Confirm understanding.

Purpose: So that you handle the real objection or question!

Here’s an example:

Prospect: “Is this sales?”

Networker: “I want to make sure I fully understand your question. Could you clarify what you mean by ’sales?’”

Prospect: “Would I have to go out and sell products door to door?”

Networker: “Oh, now I understand. Thank you for clarifying that. Are you looking for this type of sales?” (further clarification)

Prospect: “Absolutely not.”

Step 3. Make the question or objection valid, but don’t agree with the objection. Use the same intensity or slightly less intensity.

Definition for first part of Step 3 above: when you make a question or objection valid, you make it important.

Purpose: you want to make the objection important because it’s important to the prospect. Making it important doesn’t mean you also have to agree with it. If you agree with it, you will give it extra strength; this is not the desired effect. You want them to know that you heard them and that you understand their concern.

Definition for second part of Step 3 above: intensity is the volume and animation you use. Using similar intensity helps you communicate better with your prospect. If your prospect is very animated about something and you sit there like a stump, your level of communication will lessen. Conversely, if you’re very animated and your prospect is subdued, the same non-optimum effect occurs.

CORRECT: “I completely understand your concern.” (Made objection important without agreeing with it.)

INCORRECT: “I feel (felt) the same way…” (This is incorrect because you agreed with objection.)

INCORRECT: “Oh! I totally agree! I would NEVER go door to door. Are you kidding me? That is so below me!” (This is incorrect because you agreed with the objection and used too much intensity.)

Step 4. Handle or facilitate handling Questions and/or Objections.

The purpose of handling questions and objections is to get the prospect past the concerns that stop him/her from getting what they’ve stated they need and/or want as it pertains to your MLM business. The most effective way to handle objections is to get the prospect to create a solution to their own objections.

CORRECT: “In the past there had been people who used the door-to-door method to find prospects, but there are many other ways to locate interested prospects. What methods of prospecting do you feel comfortable with?”

Prospect: “Well, I wouldn’t mind mailing out postcards. I also like running newspaper advertisements.”

Networker: “Good, both of those can be effective ways to find prospects.”

See, the networker is not “handling” the objection; he/she is facilitating the prospect to handle their own objection. The key is to ask questions that lead the prospect to their own solution. If you say it, then it can be challenged. If the prospect says it, then it must be true!

NOTE: Do not move to the next step, “Complete and Return to Previous ‘Inviting Formula’ Step,” until you are certain the objection(s) is handled.

Step 5. Complete and return to previous “inviting formula” step.

Definition: The “Complete and Return to Previous Step” completes the conversation about the question or objection, and moves prospect and networker to the step of the Inviting Formula they were on, prior to the question or objection.

Note: The “Inviting Formula” is a series of steps that guide you through an entire conversation with a prospect. The full MLM training on Inviting can be found in a CD series I authored called “Professional Inviter.” (see http://www.FirstClassMLMTools.com)Â For quick reference in this article, the “Inviting Formula” is:

1. Greet
2. Qualify
3. Invite
4. Handle any Questions/Objections
5. Close to Action
6. Follow-up or Follow-through

Example: “Thanks for bringing that up. Now that I know a tad bit more about you, tell me, you sound like you’ve had experience in marketing; is that correct? (Moving prospect and networker back to Qualify step of “Inviting Formula”, which was where they were at when the “sales” question arose.)

Prospect: “Yeah, I’ve been doing it my whole adult life.”

Networker: “That’s great. So you understand that marketing is “how you find the customer?”

Prospect: “Absolutely. Companies couldn’t exist without marketing.”

Networker: “Since you know that, have you ever thought about marketing for your own business?”

It’s very important that you get good at using the above formula in order to have success in your MLM business. See, when you take the responsibility of prospecting someone and inviting them to join your MLM team, you are agreeing to become their teammate, a teammate that will help their mate get over the obstacles that stop them from making a lot of money.

If they could have done it on their own, they would have. They need you! They’ve put this “objection” in their way of wealth. You, being a good teammate, can help get them beyond this obstacle. The “Questions & Objections Remedy Formula” I’ve given you above will accomplish that.

With respect,

How do people feel about this news editorial over illegals? A sad day for Utah?
A sad day for Utah

Deseret News editorial

Immigration law is a federal matter. All sides seem to agree on that. But when it comes to whether Utah needs to make up for a lack of will in Washington to deal with it, a lot of folks let emotion and hearsay rule the day.

Which is why Utah's notorious SB81, an immigration bill that promises to harm everyone in the state and that may, to a large extent, be found to be unconstitutional before it gets too old, becomes law today.

This law is not compassionate. It promises to pull apart families of undocumented workers who came here seeking a better life and who contribute to the tax base. It turns anyone with brown skin into a suspect and is sure to breed racism.

It is costly. It calls for local police agencies to enforce federal law (although many Utah police agencies have said they will decline to do so), and it provides no money to help with such enforcement. It requires public agencies to screen employees, contractors and the recipients of benefits and yet, again, it provides no funding for this. Local governments already are reeling from a loss of revenue due to the recession. Now comes this burden.

The law will make it harder for U.S. Census officials to get an accurate count of Utahns next year. It will make illegal residents unduly suspicious of government officials, even though census workers are forbidden by law to investigate or report crimes. Illegal aliens should be counted along with legal residents. A complete head count will ensure that Utah receives the federal funding it needs to handle its population and that sales-tax receipts are distributed fairly. Ten years ago, the census undercounted Utah Hispanics by an estimated 50,000, which would have been more than enough to give the state a fourth congressional representative.

The law places extra burdens on business owners, requiring them to use an E-verify system for which many of them lack training. Elsewhere, this system has been shown to reject legal residents by mistake. The result will be yet another drag on a struggling economy.

It will make Utah less safe. Illegal immigrants will be afraid to report crimes because doing so might mean they will be deported.

Most importantly, the law seeks to correct problems that don't exist. A recent Sutherland Institute study found that only 3.9 percent of inmates in county jails in Utah are undocumented, as are less than 5 percent of inmates in state prisons. Illegal immigrants do not commit crimes to a larger degree than others. Most are as law abiding as other Utahns. Crossing the border illegally is a minor offense, on the order of a speeding ticket.

A much better approach would have been to set up some sort of system by which these workers could enter and leave the state legally. That is the approach the federal government needs to take. We are astounded that all sides in this debate cannot see the wisdom of a system that would control and monitor the influx of workers across the border, eliminating the crimes committed by immigration traffickers and making it easier to spot and punish the genuine criminals.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals may soon strike down part of an Oklahoma law that mirrors Utah's new law. Other lawsuits are in the planning stages. Utah could end up paying a heavy toll economically, and in other ways, for passing this law. The best idea would be for lawmakers to begin laying plans to repeal it as soon as possible.

I am fortunate to live in a Southern California beach town. I have surfed most of my life because of my close proximity to the ocean. Unlike how it is portrayed in the movies, California beaches get cold in the winter, requiring surfers to wear wetsuits this time of the year. I needed a new wetsuit this year and my shopping experience at the local surf shops left much to be desired because of their point-of-sale systems. They have the technology to provide outstanding customer service, so why aren’t they using it?

The town I grew up in has a small main street with over ten surf shops selling the same merchandise. This makes it very convenient for me to run down during my lunch hour and grab whatever I may need very quickly. On this occasion I needed a specific size of wetsuit so I made a few phone calls to make sure they had my size. I found two stores right across the street from one another that had my size. The first store couldn’t tell me the color of the wetsuit. The other store told me they had one in black after they put me on hold and physically checked. When I asked each of them if their other store locations had any in stock, rather than looking up stock balances on their point-of-sale systems, they gave me the phone numbers to the other stores and told me to call myself.

Feeling confident, I headed down during my lunch hour to buy my new wetsuit. When I walked into the first store, they had my size, as they told me they did on the phone, but the only color they had was red! Their point-of-sale software couldn’t give them that important information and so they couldn’t relay it to me. I shot the sales person an unhappy look, and he simply said, “I know”. So I left that store with my $400.00 and walked across the street to the second store that had my size and in the standard black color that I wanted.

I found the wetsuit in the second store right away. The time limit on my parking meter and lunch hour were expiring so I was in a hurry. I took the wetsuit to the first counter and the clerk told me the system was down; and then asked if I could move to another checkout counter. At the next one, the girl said the receipt printer was out of paper and she didn’t know how to replace it. At the third counter, the clerk could ring me up but only if I were paying cash because they were trying to fix a credit card machine batch error. Each of their checkout counters are in different places throughout the store, so at that point I was done. They also lost a $400.00 purchase due to their point-of-sale system.

Walking back to my car, I decided to quickly check a smaller store on the same street. Rather than searching myself, I simply walked up to the counter and asked them if they had the black wetsuit I wanted in my size. The clerk looked it up on the screen and then brought it back to me while I never left the counter. That’s service! Their point-of-sale system was quick and efficient. Since I’m in the point-of-sale industry, I also noticed that they had up-to-date hardware, software, and credit card processing. The efficiency of their point-of-sale system made it easy for me to buy and earned them the $400.00 sale.

Driving back to the office, I wondered how many times sales simply walk out of stores because of their point-of-sale systems. The products most retailers sell aren’t unique so the emphasis should be on customer service and making it easy for a customer to buy. Otherwise, a customer can simply walk to another retailer and buy the same item. Follow these tips to insure your point-of-sale system isn’t costing you sales.

Training – Training your front line employees on the proper use of the point-of-sale system should be a top priority. This training should include all aspects of the system that allow them to serve the customer more efficiently. Most clerks seem to know just the basics, and any anomaly forces them to stop production (sales) and wait for help. Just think about how many times you’ve been in a line and are forced to wait while a customer pulls out a coupon, is exchanging merchandise, or is trying to buy an item without a barcode. And these are just the basics.

Cashier training should also include advanced functions such as checking stock levels for in-store customers as well as call-in customers, checking stock levels at other stores, initiating a store transfer, searching for merchandise in the system, ringing items with missing bar code tags, and any simple hardware malfunctions that may occur (these would include changing receipt paper, rebooting a computer, and so on).

Accurate Inventory – The accuracy of the point-of-sale information is only reliable when the users are reliable and disciplined. Unreliable information is an indication of an undisciplined user. How many times have you heard store employees say “the system shows we have one, but I’d call first to verify.”? Or worse, a store tells you the system confirms they have several, and you make the trip, only to find they have none.

To insure accurate and reliable on-hand inventory levels within the point-of-sale software, the user must:

1.      Perform a regular physical inventory. These should be performed quarterly as part of the auditing process when preparing quarterly financial statements.

2.      Cycle Counts – If a quarterly inventory process is too much of a challenge, perform cycle counts within the best selling departments or vendors lines.

3.      Do not allow employees to sell goods classified with a miscellaneous SKU (Stock Keeping Unit). Inventory levels will never be adjusted properly.

4.      Scan the bar code of every item sold. Entering an item number manually into the system will never account for size and color based items. An item UPC (Universal Product Code) bar code is different for each size and color.

5.      Insure the store locations are communicating with each other flawlessly. Whether your system is a real-time configuration or a polling configuration; proper communications will either make or break the reliability of the point-of-sale information. Sales, returns, receiving, adjustments, and transfers all affect stock levels. A store location can never know if an item is in inventory or has sold out unless it is communicated to them.

Modern Hardware – You should pay attention to the aesthetics of the point-of-sale hardware just as you would to any other store fixture. You will interact with customers more at the cash wrap than any other area in the store; so make sure to make it a pleasant experience.

Most name brand hardware today is a bargain compared to a few years ago. It also gives your store an updated appearance. Although it will cost slightly more than “cheap” hardware, it will more than pay for itself with the reliability it offers. Modern hardware also requires less real-estate at the cash wrap; touch screens and flat screens don’t require a mouse and take up less space. An all-in-one type of unit offers all of the components, including the computer, built into the monitor.

The best part of name brand point-of-sale hardware is that it works reliably. POS hardware companies have industrialized their computers and peripherals to meet the rigorous demands of the retail environment. These types of computers and printers will cost more, but their duty cycles vastly outperform any comparable consumer level device. Consumer level computers are not designed to operate non-stop for 12-24 hours per day.

Integrated Credit Card Processing – Save yourself and your customers the frustration of those little grey boxes. Anytime you can minimize devices or suppliers, your quality will always improve. Most point-of-sale systems today offer a credit card processing feature within the application. Using the software versus dedicated hardware allows you to speed transaction times, reduce costs for paper and dedicated phone lines, decrease training confusion, reduce theft, and free up valuable counter space. It’s a winner on all levels.

Easy To Load Receipt Printers – The days of 2-ply and 3-ply receipt paper are long gone. Most point-of-sale software today allows you to recall a receipt onto the screen for reprints. If your software has this feature, dump the slow dot-matrix printer and get one of the faster thermal printers on the market today. In addition to being fast and quiet, they also offer lower paper costs and can be loaded with the press of a button. When the paper runs out, cashiers simply press the open button and drop in a new roll. Anyone can learn this within seconds, and they will no longer have to wait for a manager to perform the old task of threading multi-part paper through the maze of spools.

Having a point-of-sale system and using it strategically are two very different things. Rather than using the point-of-sale system as a glorified cash register; use it to provide superior customer service. The difference will earn you the sales that are walking out of your competitor’s doors.

Is working as a store manager for Hollister Co. a great oppurtunity?
I recently got a call to interview for store manager position at Hollister Co, owned by Abercrombie & Fitch. I have not worked directly in retail management, but have worked in sales. They train you, and after an MIT program, (short), you become THE store manager. Thats what the interview is for. I am curious, is this a good company to work for and a great oppurtunity? Will the amount of work seriously override the amount I get paid? Anyone worked here before?

Believe it or not, there are Mortgage Sales Training programs out there that allow new agents to learn how to use the phone to connect with prospects the “right way.”

You see up until recently there has never been much regulation on mortgage sales techniques, and this has led to some pretty unethical dealings with new and existing agents. Some of which have been pretty scary and indecent to say the least.

Only recently, the mortgage industry has begun to be cleaned up by governing bodies where mortgage companies can join, to show they are indeed ethical and don’t use any sort of shady tactics to pressure prospects into a sale they otherwise wouldn’t have made.

And this is rather sad, because there is a mortgage sales training programs out there, that is actually based on being your authentic self, the truth and low-pressure conversation.

What this actually does is allow the mortgage agent to connect with their client in a very useful way. A way that will more than likely ensure a long term working relationship with their clients becuase they “trust” their existing mortgage broker. And as it’s been stated in the past, people buy from people they like and trust.

Because I’ve been a sales coach for 3 years in this area, I’ve observed how mortgage sales agents have turned their lead generation around by using this certain programs and using live one-on-one coaching.

The flaws that are inherent in the existing mortgage sales training approach in many industries don’t have to exist for salespeople. But it’s becuase of the study of some old school sales tactics which are very destructive for any sales process.

And now there is a way for salespeople to learn these new techniques and mindset. Some online sources you can even enter your sales challenge and have a live coach discuss that with you on the phone, and that’s unheard of in this industry because most sales programs just want you to buy.

But should you discover an integrity based program, and one where they really do care about your success, and it shows right from the very first time you visit their site.

All I can say is, have a look at integrity based programs and “dare” to be different and sway away from some of the rubbish that the industry is currently teaching to new starters.

It’s not the techniques or tactics that will build rapport with your propects, it’s the way you think and live your life on a trust level that really allows you to be yourself and connect your personality back into the sales process. I’m sure you’ll love it once you finally understand it!

There are many elements to successful selling including a captivating opener, good communication and presentation skills, and strong closing tactics. Perhaps one of the most important factors in successful selling is your power to persuade. Persuasion should run through all of the elements mentioned above, the opening, the presentation and even the close. Persuading successfully means creating language, presentations and an overall tactical approach that all lead to your prospect saying “yes.”

In this article we will discuss how you can make your language more persuasive. Improving your communication skills in this way will result in your creating a more effective sales presentation.

WIIFM
Do you speak on the same frequency on which your prospect listens? Many sales reps have a rigid routine from which they never deviate, they suspend talk of benefits they reach a certain point, every time. The problem with this technique is that you will likely lose your prospect by the time you start to talk about things that actually matter to him or her.

From the time your proposition begins, you should be speaking in terms of WIIFM, What’s in it for me? You cannot wait until you have reached a special point in your presentation: in a warm sales situation your prospects will quickly lose interest, even if he or she continues to listen politely, it will be hard to bring them back. In a cold calling situation, you may not even have this much, a click of the dial tone will shortly follow a weak opening.

Desired End States
This is a concept that goes beyond the movement that took us from features to benefits. Certainly, it is a great deal more effective to tell a prospect about the whiter whites a special chemical in your detergent will bring, rather than actually describing the chemical in scientific terms. However, you get one step closer to the sale when you focus on the desired end states.

To describe desired end states I will expand upon the detergent example above. My time working at a large consumer packaged goods corporation gave me insight into one of the greatest discoveries that the sales profession has ever seen, and the detergent companies were among the first to apply it

you may remember a long time ago when detergent ads looked like something from a science class? They would have an official looking man wearing a white coat pointing at a graphic illustration that explained scientific principle behind some mysterious chemical that would make your clothes sparkle. Today, these ads are completely different. You will see a popular young man arm in arm with a beautiful woman or a happy looking family doing cartwheels in a meadow.

Why the new direction? Instead of explaining benefits, these savvy sellers decided to base their ads around desired end states. The term refers to the feeling a person gets when he or she is using the product in question. Its effects go far beyond benefits. It is simply more persuasive to conjure the feeling a person will get when using your product or service as opposed to just discussing the technical steps involved.

So using our example of detergent, they will show a woman who does laundry for her family having fun with them in an open field, conjuring the feeling of a wonderful day spent with her family in a beautiful, clean environment. Also, they may show a man with lots of friends and a beautiful girlfriend who doesn’t have to worry about not receiving social acceptance because his clothes are always fresh and clean.

If you can create sales presentations that focus on the WIIFM and desired end states from the very beginning, you will have your prospect’s attention from the very beginning. The result of this will be a more persuasive presentation.

Propose a hardware purchasing strategy?
Based on Holmes’ (2007) article, propose a hardware purchasing strategy.

Buy the best you can afford for your IT needs
Mike Holmes. Business Day. Johannesburg: Aug 20, 2007. pg. 2

New IT equipment often needs post-sale support. Yet this is seldom provided. So it's worth taking the trouble to seek out a supplier who does offer how-to training. It's important to find an IT supplier who acts more like a service provider. Someone who can partner with you, understand your business, and ensure that you buy the right equipment. This would come at a price. Sometimes business owners decide to replace IT equipment quite unnecessarily, says Neil Evans of Computer Troubleshooters in Randburg. When a problem arises they may conclude that the equipment is faulty, outdated or no longer able to do the job. But frequently the solution often involves better environmental or equipment use and not the replacement of expensive machines or parts. The franchise company concentrates on service, not sales, says Evans. So it can advise clients on the best hardware components or software applications for their requirements. The technician builds up a relationship with the client. In this way he is able to offer services and advice that is appropriate to the business and its budget. nThis is the final article in a series on How to Avoid Pitfalls in Business Purchases.

More expensive oil translates into higher material costs, higher manufacturing costs, and higher transportation costs for the delivery of goods; but it also translates into higher fuel costs for consumers needed to visit brick and mortar stores. Retailers are caught in the middle between an increasing cost of goods and fewer customers visiting their stores.

Â

In order to stay competitive, and in some cases in order to survive, retailers need to adapt to changes in the shopping habits of consumers and continue to meet the consumers’ needs. As gas prices rise, more and more consumers are shopping from home. While changes in consumer shopping habits present obvious challenges, they also present significant opportunities for retailers who are willing to adapt to and meet the changing needs of their customers. Simply put, retailers have to be able to effectively and efficiently serve remote shoppers, and a critical component of serving remote shoppers is handling inbound phone calls.

Â

Today, most businesses treat inbound phone calls more as an annoyance than an opportunity. The promise of e-commerce led many businesses to direct limited resources away from phone-based sales toward Internet-based sales. However, it is not web-savvy consumers that make up the bulk of new remote shoppers. The fact of the matter is that as more shopping is done from home, inbound phone calls will necessarily become an increasingly important part of a retailer’s sales prospects. Businesses that embrace the change will benefit to the detriment of those that resist. Retailers who are willing can capitalize on inbound sales calls by establishing a plan to handle the calls and convert them into sales.

Â

To a remote shopper, the image projected by a business over the phone is the equivalent of the storefront. It is imperative that retailers project a polished and professional image over the phone. First, every business should have a strict policy for answering the phone. Each person within the business that answers incoming phone calls should follow an incoming call script that is short, cheerful, and professional. The script should identify the name of the business and is an opportunity to thank the caller for taking the time to call. For example, “Thank you for calling XYZ Corporation, how may I help you?” Basic phone etiquette is important and anyone that answers the phone should be trained to be polite, speak clearly, smile while speaking, and use appropriate grammar and language.

Â

Second, businesses should have a method in place for keeping callers on the line during call transfers or call queues. A well crafted on hold program is crucial to every business that receives inbound phone calls. On hold programs should be a combination of short, positive messages that emphasize aspects of the business, its products or services; and cheerful, upbeat music. On hold message content may be coordinated with specific marketing campaigns by adding on hold marketing to a company’s overall marketing mix. However, program formatting is important, as a poorly crafted on hold program might project a negative company image and might actually increase the incidence of hang-ups.

Â

And last, anyone handling inbound sales calls should be trained in basic salesmanship. The goal of a business in receiving inbound calls is to convert as many of the calls as possible into orders. By adapting to changes in consumer shopping habits; challenges such as the rising price of gas can be turned into opportunities to differentiate a business from its competitors and provide a level of service that will keep current customers as well as attract new customers from business that continue to resist the change. While the increasing price of oil presents a significant challenge to businesses and consumers alike, businesses that anticipate and adapt to changes in consumer shopping patterns can take measures to minimize negative effects, or even benefit from the change.

I am applying for a promotion, what important points should I include on my resume?
I work in an inbound call center and I have only been there for three months. I saw a posting for Sr Reps and Captains and am interested in applying. I have much experience in the retail sales but this is my first job in telesales.

I was taken advantage of in my last job as a department manager trainee in an elctronic store, where I worked as a supervisor for six months without the title. I also had another job with a similar situation only the co. was so small that they did not have a title associated with their training program and due to unfortunate circumstances I had to relocate before I was promoted.

So, if anyone has any advice how I can show this as management experience on my resume I would appreciate it.

Do you ever consider how much that piece of art on your wall may be worth? Do you have an original piece of art by a unknown artist or are you lucky enough to have an original piece of art by a popular artist? The art world is often in uproar when a rare piece is placed on the market and eager collectors almost fall over themselves to obtain this rare art piece for their collections. Here are the top 10 most expensive art pieces recorded to date in descending order. Prepare to be surprised.

Please note: The prices quoted are take into consideration inflation from the original reported auctions or private sales and is priced in millions USD. This list provides estimated worth’s only and is not intended to be an accurate record of art sales. This article is used to illustrate art worth in general terms.

10. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II by Gustav Klimt – $89.1 Million

Adele Bloch-Bauer II was painted in 1912 by Gustav Klimt. Adele Bloch-Bauer was the wife of Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a wealthy industrialist of the time, who was a keen sponsor the arts and supported Gustav Klimt’s work. Adele Bloch-Bauer was the only model ever to be painted twice by Gustav Klimt. This item was part of a set of two and Adele also appeared in the much more famous “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I”.

9. Portrait de l’artiste sans barbe by Vincent van Gogh – $90.1 Million

One of the numerous self portraits Vincent Van Gogh painted, this particular version is the most recognizable and popular. Painted in 1889, this piece created massive waves of interest when it was placed at auction at Christie’s, New York. Christie’s only estimated this piece would sell for around $20 Million.

8. Dora Maar au Chat by Pablo Picasso – $97 Million

Dora Maar au Chat commonly known as Dora Maar with Cat was painted in 1941 by Pablo Picasso. This wonderful work by Picasso features his Croatian mistress, Dora Maar, seated on a chair with a small black cat perched on her shoulders. As was often seen with his work, he uses wide swaths of contrasting color to draw out the subject.

7. Irises by Vincent Van Gogh – $97.5 Million

Irises is one of the most famous pieces painted by Vincent van Gogh. This piece was one of his early works while he was at the asylum in Saint-R?-de-Provence, France and was painted shortly before his death in 1890. This item is currently on view at the Getty Museum in California.

6. Gar? ?a pipe by Pablo Picasso – $113.4 Million

Currently owned by the John Hay Whitney’s estate, it sold for $104.1 million at an auction in New York’s Sotheby’s in 2004. Sotheby’s originally estimated a pre-sale worth of $70 million. Many of the worlds experts in the art industry speculated that the painting’s high sale price has much more to do with the artist’s name than with the historical importance of the painting itself.

5. Bal au moulin de la Galette, Montmartre by Pierre-Auguste Renoir – $122.8 Million

Commonly known as Le Moulin de la Galette, this wonderful work by the famous French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir was painted in 1876 at the Mus?d’Orsay in Paris. Bal au Moulin de la Galette, Montmartre is a smaller version of an impressionist painting Renoir painted of the same name.

4. Portrait of Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh – $129.7 Million

Again, Vincent van Gogh graces our list with one of the most expensive works of art of all time. This portrait of Gachet was painted just outside Paris in 1890, and depicts his then doctor, Paul Gachet. Gachet, who looked after Vincent during the artist’s last months. Gachet was an hobby artist and became good friends with Van Gogh.

3. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt – $137.6 Million

The partner to the previously described piece of art. This is the first portrait of Adel Bloch-Bauer Klimt and was painted in 1907. According to reports, it was sold in June 2006 for $135 million to Ronald Lauder for his gallery in New York City. At that time it set a record as the most expensive painting ever sold.

2. Woman III by Willem de Kooning – $140.2 Million

Painted in 1953 by the abstract expressionist painter Willem de Kooning this fantastic piece is one of 6 paintings by Kooning in which the central theme was a woman. Woman III was sold by David Geffen in November 2006 to the billionaire Steven A. Cohen for a reported $137.5 Million.

1. No. 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock – $142.7 Million

Finally, we come to the most valuable art to date, No. 5,1948 by the artist Jackson Pollock. This abstract art, painted in 1948, was created on a 8 x 4 feet sheet of fiberboard, with large amounts of thick brown and yellow paint drizzled on top of it, forming a chaotic nest-like appearance. This work of art was sold by David Geffen in 2006 for $140 Million making it the most valuable piece of art ever sold.

So, as you can see, there is some vastly valuable works of art in the art industry being sold. I am certain you are asking yourself “What about other pieces of older art?” All of these wondrous pieces of art in this list were painted after 1800. Any art previous to this date is usually in the hands of museums across the world. The Mona Lisa, as an example, was insured in 1962 for around $100 Million. When we consider the rate of inflation it is fair to assume that its current worth would be around $670 Million today. However, it is unlikely you will ever see this majestic smile in Christie’s or Sotheby’s anytime soon.

If you have been inspired by these items and would like to see more. Thankfully you do not have to pay anywhere near these prices if you would like a copy of these items on your wall! You can discover wonderful reproductions of each of these items in many sizes, formats and mediums on our Arteblanche.com website. We have one of the world’s largest inventories of art from the popular artists in this list to unknown artists and cover every aspect and work of art imaginable. We hope you have found this article informative and as inspiring as we did in writing this.

“How To Make Your Direct Marketing Writing Efforts Walk, Talk, And Breathe”

4 Strategies Every Health, Fitness, and Small Business Owner Should Know About To Win With Customers, Clients, And Champions

Now here are some ways to help you to perfect, polish, and strengthen your writing efforts. Apply these tools to your tool box and you’ll create writing that walks, talks, and breathes!

Use A Thesaurus

Obvious, isn’t it? You’ve probally used a thesaurus at some time or another. Most writers use it for the wrong reasons they still think writing has to be intellectual. In my experience making things to complex for my audience to read turns them off. Keeping things simple seems to always work best for results. Use a thesaurus to keep your writing simple and direct. Afterall, we are not writing to one another well at least I think we aren’t or are we?

Use a Simile Book

A simile, by the way, is a phrase used to compare two different ideas. For example: “as compelling as a gun to your head” that is using a simile. A simile can give your reader a nice jolt they might be reading along and suddenly you make a comparison that surprises him. Thats electrifying! When using similes, try and make your own words. Add this to your tool box of tricks and watch your readership increase.

Use a Book Of Analogies

“Become a writing wizard.” Turn your writing into spells no mortal can resist!”
Find books that inspire you to create power writing. Certainly when you do you’ll find words tickling your mind into creating juicy new phrases. One must read is: The Analogy Book of Related Words By Selma Glasser. Use this book as your word- storming partner and watch the excitement of your crowd soar Guaranteed!

Use a Book Of Quotes

If anything else lets face it Quotes look good on page, don’t they?

Let us resolve to be masters, not victims , of our history, controlling our own destiny without giving way to blind suspicions and emotions.

– John F. Kennedy

Two reasons to use quotes are they are visually appealing and they create dialogue and dialogue is alive. Try these strategies out for size and have fun with your writing the rest will take care of it self.

A month or two back I was in an online discussion with someone who had had an article of theirs printed and quoted from without their permission, and without the proper copyright notice. The author was up in arms and was wondering what to do about it.

No matter how much inventory you have, or how large your customer base, the viability of your business depends on the flow of your thinking, your creativity, your presence. What do you do when someone steals your hard work?

Send a thank-you note.

Remember the Grateful Dead? I was never a big fan, more into punk myself, but I was always intrigued by friends who had dozens and dozens of “bootlegs” of Dead shows- recordings they personally made, or bought from someone else.

What many people don’t know about the Grateful Dead is that early on they made a decision to treat the band as a business, and made many decisions to leverage their success, without compromising their values.

They noticed that their fans were recording their shows. Unlike many other bands and industries that tried to stop this nefarious activity (remember Napster?), the Dead encouraged it. Why?

Have you ever tried to act like someone else? How long could you keep it up? The last time I unconciously started writing like someone I admired, I started getting unsubscribes and complaints like crazy, and I had to come back to my own authenticity in a hurry.

The Dead, by smiling at bootleggers who were making “unofficial” copies of the shows, were actually encouraging the growth of community. More people attended their shows just to record bootlegs. It created a “collection” mindset. It was a big deal to say that you had a particular bootleg, and even more of coup to say that you had been at that show.

And, their official records, more than 50 live and studio releases, were a part of the ‘collection mania’ and had strong, profitable sales over 30+ years.

Instead of spending your time and energy trying to police your “intellectual property rights,” put your attention on your heart and your authenticity, and encourage others to make the best use of your materials and ideas. Trust that your customers can tell your authentic presence from someone else who is just riding in your draft.

Are there times when it’s worth it to protect your stuff?

Keys to Hippie Protectionism

• It’s not thieving to be in the morphic field.

Biologist Rupert Sheldrake originated the “morphic field” theory in modern science (something that has been observed spiritually for eons). The basic theory is this: genetics alone doesn’t explain why a plant grows in a particular form. Why do oak leaves all have basically the same shape?

Sheldrake advanced a holistic theory that “morphic fields” hold the pattern for structures. In a similar way, it’s not uncommon to find scientists, writers, researchers all working independently on similar ideas, remote from each other. Read his article.

If you are “inspired” by a particular idea, and you notice others taking up the flag as well, don’t fret about being stolen from, or someone getting “there” faster than you. Instead, rejoice that the morphic field is making your inspiration more accessible and understandable to the general public.

• Creative Commons Licensing

Instead of a regular strict copyright, you can use the Creative Commons licensing approach to be more flexible and generous in approaching your “intellectual property.”

In their own words: “Creative Commons offers a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors and artists. We have built upon the ‘all rights reserved’ of traditional copyright to create a voluntary ’some rights reserved’ copyright. We’re a nonprofit. All of our tools are free.”

For more information, check them out. http://creativecommons.org/

• Wholesale stealing of your entire show.

I have seen instances when someone has copied a website completely, word-for-word, including the free give-aways and bonuses. I always feel a little sad the very, very few times I’ve seen or heard of this, because someone is so clearly shut-down in their heart, and feeling desperate. Their business won’t last sustainably like that, but it is good to take official notice so you don’t have problems later on.

In these instances it’s often easy to send a note to them telling them you’ve noticed them and they need to cease and desist. If they don’t respond, you can look up their website registration on Whois.

Generally, an email sent to the company where they have registered their domain name will result in some action.

If you want to track certain words and phrases on the web, you can use Google Alerts.

However, this is an extreme case, and you will probably not encounter it.

Let your heart rest easy about “borrowers.” Stay in your authenticity, keep letting your heart move you forward, and rejoice that what you are inspired by is resonating so strongly with other people. This means you probably have a very viable and profitable market for your business.
