Searching for used cars online is easy and convenient. Here are a few tips on how to use the internet to search for used cars online.

1. Make use of the internet’s convenience advantage.

What’s so great about online used car searching? For starters, it means you can do most of the tedious work of canvassing for cars right in the comfort of your home. You don’t have to travel mile after mile to a car lot only to learn that the car of your dreams does not exist there. This means you have to travel another stretch to find another car lot that, unfortunately, might not have the car you are looking for as well.

This painful experience could take anywhere from a day (if you are lucky) to a few weeks (on a busy schedule). Plus you can only visit these places during the day. If these businesses have flyers, or do advertising, it may be easier on you since you at least have a list (however incomprehensive it may be) of the models they have available.

Enter the internet. You can surf for cars from dozens of car dealers in a matter of a few minutes or hours. Plus these sites will most likely have comprehensive information on their products – and this even includes pictures.

2. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable online entity, One way to do this is before seriously considering a certain online car site, look up their physical address. This means you have to jot down their address, phone numbers, and other contact information so that you can make inquiries with the local business listings and organizations.

3. Upon matching up with the car of your dreams, consider visiting the dealer. In actuality, it is possible to conclude the whole business process of purchasing a used car online through the internet. However, you may want to visit the physical address of the dealer for a physical inspection of the car you wish to purchase.

4. Make sure you understand the contract, and terms of agreement these online search companies carry. This will inform you of your rights and responsibilities when entering negotiations online.

5. Do background research on the car site and make sure you know what plans they offer. Some used cars websites offer certain guarantees and even insurance. You may want to explore these options to make sure you get the best value for you money.

There are many elements to successful selling including a captivating opener, good communication and presentation skills, and strong closing tactics. Perhaps one of the most important factors in successful selling is your power to persuade. Persuasion should run through all of the elements mentioned above, the opening, the presentation and even the close. Persuading successfully means creating language, presentations and an overall tactical approach that all lead to your prospect saying “yes.”

In this article we will discuss how you can make your language more persuasive. Improving your communication skills in this way will result in your creating a more effective sales presentation.

WIIFM
Do you speak on the same frequency on which your prospect listens? Many sales reps have a rigid routine from which they never deviate, they suspend talk of benefits they reach a certain point, every time. The problem with this technique is that you will likely lose your prospect by the time you start to talk about things that actually matter to him or her.

From the time your proposition begins, you should be speaking in terms of WIIFM, What’s in it for me? You cannot wait until you have reached a special point in your presentation: in a warm sales situation your prospects will quickly lose interest, even if he or she continues to listen politely, it will be hard to bring them back. In a cold calling situation, you may not even have this much, a click of the dial tone will shortly follow a weak opening.

Desired End States
This is a concept that goes beyond the movement that took us from features to benefits. Certainly, it is a great deal more effective to tell a prospect about the whiter whites a special chemical in your detergent will bring, rather than actually describing the chemical in scientific terms. However, you get one step closer to the sale when you focus on the desired end states.

To describe desired end states I will expand upon the detergent example above. My time working at a large consumer packaged goods corporation gave me insight into one of the greatest discoveries that the sales profession has ever seen, and the detergent companies were among the first to apply it

you may remember a long time ago when detergent ads looked like something from a science class? They would have an official looking man wearing a white coat pointing at a graphic illustration that explained scientific principle behind some mysterious chemical that would make your clothes sparkle. Today, these ads are completely different. You will see a popular young man arm in arm with a beautiful woman or a happy looking family doing cartwheels in a meadow.

Why the new direction? Instead of explaining benefits, these savvy sellers decided to base their ads around desired end states. The term refers to the feeling a person gets when he or she is using the product in question. Its effects go far beyond benefits. It is simply more persuasive to conjure the feeling a person will get when using your product or service as opposed to just discussing the technical steps involved.

So using our example of detergent, they will show a woman who does laundry for her family having fun with them in an open field, conjuring the feeling of a wonderful day spent with her family in a beautiful, clean environment. Also, they may show a man with lots of friends and a beautiful girlfriend who doesn’t have to worry about not receiving social acceptance because his clothes are always fresh and clean.

If you can create sales presentations that focus on the WIIFM and desired end states from the very beginning, you will have your prospect’s attention from the very beginning. The result of this will be a more persuasive presentation.

Propose a hardware purchasing strategy?
Based on Holmes’ (2007) article, propose a hardware purchasing strategy.

Buy the best you can afford for your IT needs
Mike Holmes. Business Day. Johannesburg: Aug 20, 2007. pg. 2

New IT equipment often needs post-sale support. Yet this is seldom provided. So it's worth taking the trouble to seek out a supplier who does offer how-to training. It's important to find an IT supplier who acts more like a service provider. Someone who can partner with you, understand your business, and ensure that you buy the right equipment. This would come at a price. Sometimes business owners decide to replace IT equipment quite unnecessarily, says Neil Evans of Computer Troubleshooters in Randburg. When a problem arises they may conclude that the equipment is faulty, outdated or no longer able to do the job. But frequently the solution often involves better environmental or equipment use and not the replacement of expensive machines or parts. The franchise company concentrates on service, not sales, says Evans. So it can advise clients on the best hardware components or software applications for their requirements. The technician builds up a relationship with the client. In this way he is able to offer services and advice that is appropriate to the business and its budget. nThis is the final article in a series on How to Avoid Pitfalls in Business Purchases.

For some of us, there is no better remedy than buying ourselves a hot rod, rat rod or classic car as a way to resolve a mid-life crisis. You may find some real bargains out there if you look long enough. Remember, “one man trash is another mans treasure”. In my opinion, the best place for true bargain hot rod or rat rod for sale is at eBay Motors. However, like any automobile purchase, you need to do a little extra homework before placing that winning bid on your new hot rod or rat rod.

Therefore, to help you make a wise purchase decision, and put you in the seat of the hot rod of your dreams, I offer up these tips:

Read The Auction Listing

This seems obvious, but, all too often, it is easy to get excited about a listing and then miss the fine print in a listing which may disclose additional terms or mechanical defects. A vehicle history report can uncover title problems, odometer tampering, and prior damage to the vehicle. Also, don’t be shy about contacting the seller and asking him/her questions regarding the history and condition of the vehicle. If the seller seems unwilling to give you straight-up answers, find another seller.

Call Your Insurance Agent

Sometimes insurance companies have special premium provisions for some classic cars or hot rods. So it’s best to find out how much your rat rod will cost to ensure before you spend your hard-earned money. Also, there are a number of insurance companies which specialize in insuring vehicles considered classic cars or hot rods. Since most of these types of vehicles are secondary transportation and not used as a commuting vehicle, they are classified as having lower risk, and thus, can carry a far lower insurance premium.

Taking Delivery

For instance, you found this dealer with a number of terrific hot rods for sale in Texas. However, you live in Florida. To take delivery, you’ll have to travel to Texas pick up the car yourself. Better yet, you can make arrangements with a car transport company to deliver the car to you. Just be sure and get a number of quotes before signing a delivery contract.

As I stated previously, there are some real good bargains to be had on eBay Motors. Just make sure you have done your homework so you may enjoy your new hot rod or rat rod for many years to come.

What are the qualities of a great sales person?

I get asked this question all the time and have found that there are some consistent qualities of a great sales person in the new rules of business and selling. I was part of a panel discussion a couple weeks ago where there were differing opinions on the qualities of a great sales person. One person was convinced that hunger was the magic ingredient. His sales people were so persistent that they angered his clients and he got complaints about them. The close of the sale is only the beginning of the relationship. I believe it’s important to start off on the right foot.

You must be able to:
1. Show them that you understand their needs or problems.
2. Communicate the value of your product or services to your prospect powerfully.

When you are able to do this, I have found that it is not necessary to call to the point of anger with your prospects.

There are new rules to selling which makes these qualities important in a great sales person.

1. Ability to listen
The ability to listen and not pitch is critical in modern selling techniques. Prospects do not care about your business, how long you have been in business or any of the fancy widgets you think is important. A prospect wants to know that you understand their needs and their problems. I heard a quote once that perfectly explains my point which is, “Listen to understand, not to respond.” You want to listen for information or clues the customer is telling us, anything from their successes and obstacles, to stories about their children or hobbies. All this will help with the selling process. You also want to be listening for emotional clues about how they feel about your product or service or any fears they may have with moving forward.

2. Ability to empathize
Along with the ability to listen to your prospects, you will also want to be able to empathize with their needs and problems. This means that you are able to put yourself in their shoes and see your product or service through their eyes. This will help you present your value proposition base upon what’s important for them.

3. Have a strong desire to learn and be coachable
Some of the best sales people I have ever met are always ready to learn something new in sales and personal development. They understand that sales is always evolving and they want to improve their skills. They also do not take it personally when someone provides them with feedback or a better approach to their techniques. They are always open to new ideas, scripts and ways to improve their performance.

4. Have a positive attitude
Yes, we have all heard of this before. Now more than ever, this is critical. We all hear the media droning on and on about the problems in our economy. However business must go on! We cannot come to a standstill in our businesses because of these events. Let me put it this way too. Have you ever gotten a tele-marketing call from someone who sounds down and out? Does it inspire you to want to do business with that company? No. We must put our fears and problems aside to sound enthusiastic and energized. This will be attractive to your prospects and encourage them to want to build a relationship with you.

5. Care but not that much
Now this is the secret to my sales success. If someone does not want to do business with you or even continue the sales discussion, there is no reason to take that personal. Not everyone is my customer. My job is to continue my search to find those businesses who are the right customer. When I take this approach, it is never personal. Also, I want to spend my time with the prospects that have the greatest chance of becoming a customer. To do this, I need to quickly brush off any rejection and move on to the next great new prospect who could turn into my great new customer.

Whether you have a sales team or you are selling your own products or services, these are skills that most of us have or can easily learn to foster.

Selling can be fun and by utilizing the skills above, it can also be easy.
Your success is our mission!

Warmly,

Joanne

The Internet is a virtual goldmine – call it a virtual El Dorado, if you will. And, there’s a gold rush out there. Just about every small business owner is doing his best at selling his product, waiting to get that big break – something that will bring home the bacon, the ham and the pudding, and much more.

But, to get that big break is not so easy. And one of the reasons for that is small business owners treat their website as a display unit – a showcase for displaying their wares. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong because a website is much more – the website should be treated like a salesman who not only displays products but also communicates with the visitors and manages to convince them to buy the product. And for that to happen, a website needs good, sorry, make that great, copywriting.

Fundamentals of Good Web Copy

First impressions are the truest and they stay for a long time. And any website’s copy must create that killer first impression that can go a long way in making a sale. Needless to say, good web copy should be absolutely free from grammatical mistakes, and so it is essential to hire the services of a professional writer to create outstanding web copy. Apart from the grammar and writing part, here are the other fundamentals of good web copy:

1.	It has to be accurate. A single false claim or even an exaggeration can have disastrous consequences. Every fact that is mentioned must be reliable or verifiable. Remember, if an exaggeration is discovered by a customer, he will blast the website on his blog and on various bulletin boards. Moral of the story: Say what you mean and mean what you say.

2.	It has to be written in a conversational style. Like we said before, the website acts as a salesman and, just like a salesman, it should communicate with the visitor in everyday language, without confusing him with long words and big sentences. Think about how you talk in real life and then put it down on paper, and get it fine-tuned by a professional. Remember: short words, short sentences help!

3.	The copy needs to be organized and should flow seamlessly from one paragraph to another without jumping the gun. There is beauty in logic and people love to read an interesting bit of copy that takes them by the hand and leads them through the jungle of words.

4.	The copy has to be to the point. A heavily worded document is tedious to read and web visitors have short attention spans. Combine these two facts and figure it out for yourself!

5.	Hype and oversell kills. Avoid them. Stick to the basics. Period.

6.	Finally, the copy must be interesting to read. There’s no joy in reading short copy with short words that just goes blah blah and does not interest the visitor. It must be ensured that the copy has enough twists and turns to compel the visitor to read it in its entirety and then make a purchase. A website owner must liken writing copy to making a movie – plot, character, story, tautness, drama and suspense.

Okay, What’s Next?

Okay, let’s say now that you have sufficient knowledge to write web copy that will hold your visitor right up to the end. The next step is to build in the pitch that will make the visitor act and buy the product. And you can build up the visitor’s desire and make him act by building a value proposition, by making him an offer he cannot refuse!

And, to build in this value proposition the website owner has to persuasively tell the visitor that if he buys from his website he’s getting a whole lot of benefits, along with a knockout deal on the price too. Once the website describes these benefits, it must then create a sense of urgency by announcing a time-limited offer or limited-visitor offer – something that will make the visitor act immediately on impulse and clinch the deal.

This is one of the oldest sales techniques and it doesn’t fail – provided you have got all the fundamentals of good web copy going and the product you are selling does have some sort of a market – no matter how small the market may be.

A Few Tips & Tricks

1.	Always proofread and perfect the copy before it is published.

2.	The copywriter must always place himself in the reader’s shoes before he writes the copy. If the copywriter does not get motivated or enthused by his own writing, then he must junk it until he gets it right.

3.	The copy must not be written in an “I-am-clever-and-I-know-it” vein. Rather, it must connect with the readers by considering them as equals.

Conclusion

To conclude, you must get your inspiration and energy from these two super quotes: “The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean” by Robert Louis Stevenson, and “Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish” by John Jakes.

Now combine the two and see the wisdom in them and go ahead and write that eyeball-grabbing copy you always wanted to write but didn’t do so because you were waiting for a spark that would egg you on. And we hope this article has given that boost to your imagination. Good luck.

“I heard you did a great job connecting with the audience and got all choked up with your acceptance speech for the Canadian Speaking Hall of Fame,” said my friend Victoria.

“Yep, when I DO authentic, it works every time,” I said with a chuckle.

I was kidding about ‘doing’ authentic, of course. What immediately connected with the audience was ‘being’ authentic.

The fact was my introducer, Warren Evans, brought me to the stage with “Welcome home Vince.” I was emotional about coming home to Canada with this kind of honor.

I blubbered for a bit, gained composure and then gave an acceptance speech. The single comment I received after was, “I loved your speech. It was you. It was real.” The speech wasn’t scripted. I had three general ideas I wanted to get across and I made it up from there.

If you are going to give a speech, pitch a product, ask for a date or convince a teenager of something then the authentic approach is the fast way to connect. Authenticity is truly one of the most endearing qualities in people. And whom do you buy from? Someone thinking of what they should say or someone tells their truth.

Think about it. When you meet someone real. Someone who is being truly authentic; How attractive is this quality?

That’s the wacky thing about sales actually. And before you say you’re not in sales, remember the quote. “If your lips are moving, chances are you’re selling something. So make it good.” Making it “good” is simple and tricky all at once.

Think about it. If you’re selling something really important you probably want to put your best foot forward. You will likely be on your best behavior and be extremely conscious of saying the right things in the right way. In other words, you don’t want to show any vulnerability. You assume that if you show any signs of weakness or chinks in your armor you will loose the sale.

But as Shakespeare once said, “Therein lies the rub.”

Think of people you feel most connected to. Have they shown you their vulnerability and authentic selves? YES! Now, in a sale, whom do you buy from? Someone you feel connected to or someone where there is no connection? You buy from people you connect with.

So, here you are spending all this time hiding parts of your personality that has the net effect of disconnection. By trying to speed up a sale by doing everything right, we are slowing it down by being less vulnerable or authentic. The flip side is if you are vulnerable and authentic you speed up the sale.

You have everything to gain and little to lose by being authentic. Vulnerability is not that old Budweiser commercial where you break down crying while saying, “I love you man!” Vulnerability is a state of mind. It is a clear signal to your prospect or person you are talking to with, “This is who I am. This is real. I’m not hiding anything.”

If you’re new to a situation, then be honest. If you’re unsure of an answer, admit it. If you disagree, beg to disagree. If you messed up, say sorry, skip the excuses and move on. If you think you have spinach in your teeth, come out and say it, “Do I have spinach in my teeth?” You get the picture. If it is authentic and honest you are vulnerable in a very good way. This will take you further and faster. People appreciate that in the Age of Speed.

Recently I spoke to a large franchise and the message the organizers kept hitting home was how “important the client experience is.” The new approach they would take is to listen to the client and give a specialized experience. Not a “by the book” agenda. They wanted the client to feel that it was a real, authentic encounter.

What struck me funny was how scripted the entire event was. They had every single executive speech on a teleprompter. The underlying message I felt while listening was incongruent. The leaders offered advice they weren’t truly demonstrating.

How much different would the audience’s experience be if the VP’s were trusted to deliver a few key points from an extemporaneous approach? How difficult would it be for the executive s to give up control of the exact outcome?

When it’s your turn to speak to one person or a room full of people stand back from trying to be perfect and decide to be you. Knock your script down to key touch points and trust that you authentic self is more than enough.

Be authentic. It’s the fastest way to connect and it works every time.

Being a salesperson is one thing; managing a team of several sales professionals is entirely another. Sales management brings more people in perspective along with a completely different set of goals. Thus, sales manager training is a wholly separate tract in business management education. Be that as it may, sales manager training is something which cannot be overlooked for it is the pivotal point at where business proficiency and management acumen must be fully demonstrated by the person in charge — that is, the sales manager.

Among all departments in a business, it is perhaps the sales department that has the highest turnover rate not just among the basic sales staff but also among sales managers. It is also the department that has the quickest rate of promotions and expansion. The sales manager position is therefore the most dynamic post in the business hierarchy and requires the most attention in terms of learning solutions and continuing education.

Hence, sales manager training is at a critical position. A good and sufficient training can provide an advantage for the company; however a training that is less than ideal may prove inadequate in helping sales managers excel in their businesses.

Focus on Managerial Skills

Most sales managers go up the ranks from being sales agents, to holding supervisory positions, until they get the managerial job either when the previous manager have gone further up the hierarchy, have left the company or when the business unit expands. Sales manager training should already be enacted at the supervisor level or even earlier among key sales personnel.

The primary learning requirement for upcoming sales managers involve augmenting their knowledge and skills to effectively perform their managerial duties. Most rookie managers have not been in a leadership position before. And the tools and know-how expected of seasoned managers are still all new to them. These include, planning skills, organizational skills, ability to motivate their respective teams, what to do during difficult situations — all these and more go into the content of sales manager training to allow new managers to adjust accordingly to their new duties.

Through sales manager training, the trainer brings together the novice manager’s new found skills and knowledge with his or her achievements and proficiency as sales professional. This brings about profound potentials that tend to improve performance of the manager and the sales team.

Discovering Strengths and Weaknesses

One additional benefit of training up sales managers is the opportunity to discover the strengths and weaknesses of the firm’s sales managerial talent pool. This allows higher management to adjust accordingly either at the individual level or as a team. A sales manager with a weakness on a certain area may be given additional training to help the manager improve. Otherwise, at the team level, certain adjustments can be made to let managers and teams complement each other’s respective strengths and weaknesses.

The importance of sales manager training cannot be watered down. A company that provides continuing sales manager training is sure to reap its benefits of a high-performance sales force.

Do you ever consider how much that piece of art on your wall may be worth? Do you have an original piece of art by a unknown artist or are you lucky enough to have an original piece of art by a popular artist? The art world is often in uproar when a rare piece is placed on the market and eager collectors almost fall over themselves to obtain this rare art piece for their collections. Here are the top 10 most expensive art pieces recorded to date in descending order. Prepare to be surprised.

Please note: The prices quoted are take into consideration inflation from the original reported auctions or private sales and is priced in millions USD. This list provides estimated worth’s only and is not intended to be an accurate record of art sales. This article is used to illustrate art worth in general terms.

10. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II by Gustav Klimt – $89.1 Million

Adele Bloch-Bauer II was painted in 1912 by Gustav Klimt. Adele Bloch-Bauer was the wife of Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a wealthy industrialist of the time, who was a keen sponsor the arts and supported Gustav Klimt’s work. Adele Bloch-Bauer was the only model ever to be painted twice by Gustav Klimt. This item was part of a set of two and Adele also appeared in the much more famous “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I”.

9. Portrait de l’artiste sans barbe by Vincent van Gogh – $90.1 Million

One of the numerous self portraits Vincent Van Gogh painted, this particular version is the most recognizable and popular. Painted in 1889, this piece created massive waves of interest when it was placed at auction at Christie’s, New York. Christie’s only estimated this piece would sell for around $20 Million.

8. Dora Maar au Chat by Pablo Picasso – $97 Million

Dora Maar au Chat commonly known as Dora Maar with Cat was painted in 1941 by Pablo Picasso. This wonderful work by Picasso features his Croatian mistress, Dora Maar, seated on a chair with a small black cat perched on her shoulders. As was often seen with his work, he uses wide swaths of contrasting color to draw out the subject.

7. Irises by Vincent Van Gogh – $97.5 Million

Irises is one of the most famous pieces painted by Vincent van Gogh. This piece was one of his early works while he was at the asylum in Saint-R?-de-Provence, France and was painted shortly before his death in 1890. This item is currently on view at the Getty Museum in California.

6. Gar? ?a pipe by Pablo Picasso – $113.4 Million

Currently owned by the John Hay Whitney’s estate, it sold for $104.1 million at an auction in New York’s Sotheby’s in 2004. Sotheby’s originally estimated a pre-sale worth of $70 million. Many of the worlds experts in the art industry speculated that the painting’s high sale price has much more to do with the artist’s name than with the historical importance of the painting itself.

5. Bal au moulin de la Galette, Montmartre by Pierre-Auguste Renoir – $122.8 Million

Commonly known as Le Moulin de la Galette, this wonderful work by the famous French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir was painted in 1876 at the Mus?d’Orsay in Paris. Bal au Moulin de la Galette, Montmartre is a smaller version of an impressionist painting Renoir painted of the same name.

4. Portrait of Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh – $129.7 Million

Again, Vincent van Gogh graces our list with one of the most expensive works of art of all time. This portrait of Gachet was painted just outside Paris in 1890, and depicts his then doctor, Paul Gachet. Gachet, who looked after Vincent during the artist’s last months. Gachet was an hobby artist and became good friends with Van Gogh.

3. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt – $137.6 Million

The partner to the previously described piece of art. This is the first portrait of Adel Bloch-Bauer Klimt and was painted in 1907. According to reports, it was sold in June 2006 for $135 million to Ronald Lauder for his gallery in New York City. At that time it set a record as the most expensive painting ever sold.

2. Woman III by Willem de Kooning – $140.2 Million

Painted in 1953 by the abstract expressionist painter Willem de Kooning this fantastic piece is one of 6 paintings by Kooning in which the central theme was a woman. Woman III was sold by David Geffen in November 2006 to the billionaire Steven A. Cohen for a reported $137.5 Million.

1. No. 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock – $142.7 Million

Finally, we come to the most valuable art to date, No. 5,1948 by the artist Jackson Pollock. This abstract art, painted in 1948, was created on a 8 x 4 feet sheet of fiberboard, with large amounts of thick brown and yellow paint drizzled on top of it, forming a chaotic nest-like appearance. This work of art was sold by David Geffen in 2006 for $140 Million making it the most valuable piece of art ever sold.

So, as you can see, there is some vastly valuable works of art in the art industry being sold. I am certain you are asking yourself “What about other pieces of older art?” All of these wondrous pieces of art in this list were painted after 1800. Any art previous to this date is usually in the hands of museums across the world. The Mona Lisa, as an example, was insured in 1962 for around $100 Million. When we consider the rate of inflation it is fair to assume that its current worth would be around $670 Million today. However, it is unlikely you will ever see this majestic smile in Christie’s or Sotheby’s anytime soon.

If you have been inspired by these items and would like to see more. Thankfully you do not have to pay anywhere near these prices if you would like a copy of these items on your wall! You can discover wonderful reproductions of each of these items in many sizes, formats and mediums on our Arteblanche.com website. We have one of the world’s largest inventories of art from the popular artists in this list to unknown artists and cover every aspect and work of art imaginable. We hope you have found this article informative and as inspiring as we did in writing this.

“How To Make Your Direct Marketing Writing Efforts Walk, Talk, And Breathe”

4 Strategies Every Health, Fitness, and Small Business Owner Should Know About To Win With Customers, Clients, And Champions

Now here are some ways to help you to perfect, polish, and strengthen your writing efforts. Apply these tools to your tool box and you’ll create writing that walks, talks, and breathes!

Use A Thesaurus

Obvious, isn’t it? You’ve probally used a thesaurus at some time or another. Most writers use it for the wrong reasons they still think writing has to be intellectual. In my experience making things to complex for my audience to read turns them off. Keeping things simple seems to always work best for results. Use a thesaurus to keep your writing simple and direct. Afterall, we are not writing to one another well at least I think we aren’t or are we?

Use a Simile Book

A simile, by the way, is a phrase used to compare two different ideas. For example: “as compelling as a gun to your head” that is using a simile. A simile can give your reader a nice jolt they might be reading along and suddenly you make a comparison that surprises him. Thats electrifying! When using similes, try and make your own words. Add this to your tool box of tricks and watch your readership increase.

Use a Book Of Analogies

“Become a writing wizard.” Turn your writing into spells no mortal can resist!”
Find books that inspire you to create power writing. Certainly when you do you’ll find words tickling your mind into creating juicy new phrases. One must read is: The Analogy Book of Related Words By Selma Glasser. Use this book as your word- storming partner and watch the excitement of your crowd soar Guaranteed!

Use a Book Of Quotes

If anything else lets face it Quotes look good on page, don’t they?

Let us resolve to be masters, not victims , of our history, controlling our own destiny without giving way to blind suspicions and emotions.

– John F. Kennedy

Two reasons to use quotes are they are visually appealing and they create dialogue and dialogue is alive. Try these strategies out for size and have fun with your writing the rest will take care of it self.

A month or two back I was in an online discussion with someone who had had an article of theirs printed and quoted from without their permission, and without the proper copyright notice. The author was up in arms and was wondering what to do about it.

No matter how much inventory you have, or how large your customer base, the viability of your business depends on the flow of your thinking, your creativity, your presence. What do you do when someone steals your hard work?

Send a thank-you note.

Remember the Grateful Dead? I was never a big fan, more into punk myself, but I was always intrigued by friends who had dozens and dozens of “bootlegs” of Dead shows- recordings they personally made, or bought from someone else.

What many people don’t know about the Grateful Dead is that early on they made a decision to treat the band as a business, and made many decisions to leverage their success, without compromising their values.

They noticed that their fans were recording their shows. Unlike many other bands and industries that tried to stop this nefarious activity (remember Napster?), the Dead encouraged it. Why?

Have you ever tried to act like someone else? How long could you keep it up? The last time I unconciously started writing like someone I admired, I started getting unsubscribes and complaints like crazy, and I had to come back to my own authenticity in a hurry.

The Dead, by smiling at bootleggers who were making “unofficial” copies of the shows, were actually encouraging the growth of community. More people attended their shows just to record bootlegs. It created a “collection” mindset. It was a big deal to say that you had a particular bootleg, and even more of coup to say that you had been at that show.

And, their official records, more than 50 live and studio releases, were a part of the ‘collection mania’ and had strong, profitable sales over 30+ years.

Instead of spending your time and energy trying to police your “intellectual property rights,” put your attention on your heart and your authenticity, and encourage others to make the best use of your materials and ideas. Trust that your customers can tell your authentic presence from someone else who is just riding in your draft.

Are there times when it’s worth it to protect your stuff?

Keys to Hippie Protectionism

• It’s not thieving to be in the morphic field.

Biologist Rupert Sheldrake originated the “morphic field” theory in modern science (something that has been observed spiritually for eons). The basic theory is this: genetics alone doesn’t explain why a plant grows in a particular form. Why do oak leaves all have basically the same shape?

Sheldrake advanced a holistic theory that “morphic fields” hold the pattern for structures. In a similar way, it’s not uncommon to find scientists, writers, researchers all working independently on similar ideas, remote from each other. Read his article.

If you are “inspired” by a particular idea, and you notice others taking up the flag as well, don’t fret about being stolen from, or someone getting “there” faster than you. Instead, rejoice that the morphic field is making your inspiration more accessible and understandable to the general public.

• Creative Commons Licensing

Instead of a regular strict copyright, you can use the Creative Commons licensing approach to be more flexible and generous in approaching your “intellectual property.”

In their own words: “Creative Commons offers a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors and artists. We have built upon the ‘all rights reserved’ of traditional copyright to create a voluntary ’some rights reserved’ copyright. We’re a nonprofit. All of our tools are free.”

For more information, check them out. http://creativecommons.org/

• Wholesale stealing of your entire show.

I have seen instances when someone has copied a website completely, word-for-word, including the free give-aways and bonuses. I always feel a little sad the very, very few times I’ve seen or heard of this, because someone is so clearly shut-down in their heart, and feeling desperate. Their business won’t last sustainably like that, but it is good to take official notice so you don’t have problems later on.

In these instances it’s often easy to send a note to them telling them you’ve noticed them and they need to cease and desist. If they don’t respond, you can look up their website registration on Whois.

Generally, an email sent to the company where they have registered their domain name will result in some action.

If you want to track certain words and phrases on the web, you can use Google Alerts.

However, this is an extreme case, and you will probably not encounter it.

Let your heart rest easy about “borrowers.” Stay in your authenticity, keep letting your heart move you forward, and rejoice that what you are inspired by is resonating so strongly with other people. This means you probably have a very viable and profitable market for your business.
