A simple objection to network marketing can cause a prospect to not return your phone calls. One thing I learned when leading 56,000 people in my own network marketing business was how to teach others to confidently handle objections. This M.L.M training article reveals the basics of how to handle every objection.

To be great at handling objections it’s quite helpful to know and understand the individual parts that make up the subject.

What’s an objection?
Let’s break down exactly what an “objection” is. An objection means that a prospect is “opposed” to something. Opposed means to be in conflict with or be resistant to. A couple of examples are: A person is opposed to war – meaning based on their belief that there shouldn’t be war; they are against (in conflict with) war. A person is opposed to divorce – based on their religious beliefs they believe something bad will happen to them later if they get a divorce. A person is opposed to eating sweet potatoes (are resistant to eating them).

An example related to M.L.M is a person being opposed to network marketing – they’ve heard some false things in the newspaper about network marketing and believe it to be unethical. Another example is a person is opposed to selling (in general) – earlier in her life she was trying to sell Girl Scout cookies and didn’t like the feeling of being told “no.” So she made up her mind that “she was not good at selling”; therefore now she is opposed to it.

The distinction between being “in conflict with” versus “resistant to” is how strong of a position do they take against that which they are opposed to. If they easily shrug it off – they were resistant to it…but if they’re willing to die for it – they are definitely in conflict with it!

Two main types of objections.
There are those objections that are expressed (meaning the prospect tells you exactly what they are opposed to) and there are objections that are unexpressed (meaning the prospect has an objection but won’t tell you what it is).

The objection, “I’m not interested” (without any other explanation) is a great example of an unexpressed objection. An unreturned phone call is another example of an unexpressed objection. Unexpressed objections are normally the end of working with that particular prospect.

Examples of expressed objections would be when the prospects says, “That’s one of those pyramids.” Or, “I don’t like sales.”

Where do objections come from?
An objection can come because of misunderstandings from things they’ve read or heard. An objection can also come from an experience – as in they’ve been in M.L.M before or have looked at M.L.M prior and have decided against it.

Also, an objection can (and most often does) come because the prospect has doubts whether they can succeed at network marketing.

As it relates to M.L.M training, I group questions and objections into one category only because how you handle them is similar. But you should be aware that whether the prospect states something as a question or an objection it’s a good idea to measure their degree of opposition. This will tell you how much assertiveness to use in handling the question or objection. (I cover this thoroughly in my M.L.M. training entitled Communication Quality number 4 – Use the Right Amount of Assertiveness in Brilliant Communicator.)

What’s the purpose in Handling Objections?
The purpose (and the only purpose) of handling an objection is to help your prospect get past what is currently stopping them from achieving what they need, want or don’t want.

The wrong purpose in handling objections is to get the person into your business. What’s the difference? EVERYTHING! The moment your prospect gets the idea that your answers ARE FOR YOUR GAIN – they withdraw and very often every objection becomes an unexpressed objection! I visualize a turtle’s head withdrawing into its shell – it is very difficult to get them to come back out and when they do they are very skeptical.

Of course you want them in your business…but the entire time you are with your prospect you must be interested in helping them get what they want, not what you want. Getting them into your business is only valuable IF THEY DECIDE that it will serve them to do so. It does you no good to convince them to join you as you’ll have to keep convincing them.

So your purpose in handling their objections is simply to help them past what’s stopping them – keep this as your purpose and you’ll always say the right thing and you will be amazed at how easy it is to handle objections.

Here are the steps of exactly how to handle questions and objections:

1.	Listen completely through the question/objection.

2.	Confirm understanding.

3.	Make the question or objection valid to the prospect.

4.	Handle or facilitate handling Questions and/or Objections.

5.	Complete the handling and return to the previous step of the Inviting formula.

I hope this M.L.M training discussion on how to handle objections has been helpful to you, so that you are completely comfortable in handling or answering any question or objection a prospect asks (or doesn’t) ask you.

Dear Lew, the Honorable Ron Paul?s piece
<http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul331.html> on why Americans are
angry really stirred me to respond. Mr. Paul?s piece speaks about many
issues facing Americans today.

I am a 51-year-old woman. I have been married to the same man since
1976. I am the secretary/office manager for a small legal firm in the
D.C. suburbs. My husband manages a wine and spirits store. I have two
sons, aged 26 and 22. After realizing it wasn?t possible to support
themselves and the government at the same time, both returned to the
nuclear nest. Along with most people in my economic situation, I believe
I am living what is supposed to be the American dream. I know why I am
an angry American. I am frightened because America isn?t the same
country it was when I was my children?s age. Allow me to share with you
some of the reasons why I am an angry American.

I am angry because my government has been taken over by liars, thieves,
thugs, deviants, and micromanagers. The propaganda it produces rivals
that of the most fascist dictatorship.

I am angry that my government perceives my intelligence to be that of a
jar of pickles incapable of making the smallest decision.

I am angry that my government takes it upon itself to shove its clucking
nose into my pantry, medicine chest, bedroom, family room, doctor?s
office, workplace, and everywhere else it thinks I need guidance to keep
me safe from myself.

I am angry that the will of the American people is ignored on every
issue imaginable. If voting really mattered, it would have been outlawed
long ago.

I am angry that I am called a conspiracy theorist because I dare to
think on my own and question authority and its lies.

I am angry that the more I read about 9-11 the more it looks like an
inside job that was allowed to happen, enabling the Patriot Act to be
conveniently enacted into law with the ensuing "war on terrah" following
closely on its heels.

I am angry that the evil puppets in power think laws are created for the
peon masses and it is their right to ignore the ones that get in the way
of their agenda.

I am angry that the media has sold its soul to the evil forces running
the world.

I am angry that my "leaders" have taken to calling my country the
"homeland." It reeks of socialism.

I am angry that my government has invaded yet another sovereign nation
and caused untold death and destruction based on a flimsy lie. I am
expected to believe that weapons of mass destruction threatened my
freedom and then I am told several years and billions of squandered
dollars later that a massive intelligence network got the wrong
information. A select group of businesses profit enormously from war.
When Bush announced his intention to save Iraq from itself and that its
oil would pay for the overthrow of Hussein, I laughed so hard I nearly
choked. I remember the instability in the Middle East during the 1970s
and the gas "shortages" that followed. I knew which direction gas prices
would go. How stupid does Mr. Bush and his cronies think I am?

I am angry that the world stands silently by while my government bombs
foreign lands with weapons containing depleted uranium and the news
magazines wonder on their front covers why lung cancer has increased
six-fold in the last year.

I am angry that Americans accept as gospel the propaganda that is
routinely cranked out of the Washington lie machine. The lies become
more transparent and brazen with each passing year, yet the only thing
that seems to matter in living rooms across America is who will be the
next American Idol.

I am angry that I am punished with high energy and gas prices and the
resulting inflation because tree-hugging terrorists masquerading as
environmentalists have handcuffed my country?s ability to produce its
own energy. It would be easy to tell the Middle East what to do with
their oil if restrictions on exploration and production were lifted in
our own backyard.

I am angry that I am constantly admonished by minimalists for being a
greedy consumer because I live where I choose, drive the vehicle of my
choice, eat meat, and use tin foil to cover my leftovers.

I am angry that my life doesn?t belong to me anymore.

I am angry that I am required to obtain permission, fill out mandated
paperwork in quadruplicate, and obtain the correct license or permit for
just about everything imaginable. The tentacles of government are
strangling my freedom, choice, and privacy at an alarming rate. The
wrath of the machine is a constant threat should I dare do anything
without leaving a neon paper trail and of course ignorance of the law is
never an excuse.

I am angry that property rights are a thing of the past thanks to
court-approved eminent domain theft.

I am angry that the Constitution is routinely declared irrelevant making
it easier for a fascist police state and new world order to take over.

I am angry that legislation is in the works that will require me to
carry "papers" to "prove" who I am. Another coming law I will ignore.

I am angry that my right to own and carry a firearm is drastically
regulated and restricted.

I am angry every time I see a young person detained on the side of the
road while cops paw through their possessions looking for anything that
could enable them to be arrested and dragged through the criminal
justice system. This has become so commonplace it is now the accepted norm.

I am angry that roadblocks are set up under the guise of keeping roads
free of drunk drivers. What has happened to my right to travel freely?
Why am I presumed guilty without probable cause? I am afraid to have a
few drinks when I go out to dinner for fear I will be pulled over and
end up in court-ordered drug rehabilitation.

I am angry when I read stories of Americans terrorized in airports and
treated like common criminals by government minions after they have paid
for the right to travel within a private system, yet pilots are blocked
from carrying firearms.

I am angry that America has become a nation of busybodies. We are
constantly bombarded with messages to be on the lookout for terrorists
around every corner, report "suspicious activity," and rat on our
neighbor whenever the opportunity presents itself. Is this not how the
Nazis gained control of Germany and then most of Europe?

I am angry that the government requires me to sign a form every time I
purchase a prescription. Whose business is it that I choose to take a
thyroid medication, an antibiotic, a painkiller, an appetite
suppressant, or any other substance? Am I dying of cancer? Am I facing
debilitating chronic pain? Do I simply want to get HIGH? Heaven forbid
someone out there might get their hands on something that might make
them FEEL GOOD! No substance should be illegal or unobtainable. If a
person wishes to self-medicate, that is their right. The government
should not be in the business of criminalizing personal choices of any
kind as long as those choices don?t infringe on another?s rights.

I am angry that my government meddles in the lives of people all over
the world but looks the other way on the catastrophic issue of what to
do about the millions of illegals who have crashed the gates of this
nation. My country?s laws are ignored and mocked, yet I am told I must
accept with open arms those who are here illegally. My taxes are used to
educate their children in their native language. Hospitals are overrun
with indigent people seeking medical care. Untaxed dollars earned in the
underground economy are sent to the family back home while social
services here are stretched to the limit. I read job want ads stating if
you aren?t bilingual don?t bother to apply. What would happen to me if I
placed an ad that said don?t bother to apply if your English isn?t
understandable? Marches are conducted in my cities? streets waving their
countries? flags as they shamelessly demand their "rights." I am told
they deserve the same opportunities that brought my forefathers here. I
am scolded that it is un-American to ask why they are not sent home. I
am told that the term "illegal alien" offends them and that they prefer
to be called "undocumented workers" and that my economy would die
without them. I will happily pay more for fruits and vegetables if it
means enforcing sensible immigration laws. But immigration isn?t about
the cost of lettuce. It is another facet of an agenda that is bent on
changing the face of America. When America is no longer a wealthy
country of white European descent, it will be a place worse than
anything Orwell could have imagined.

I am angry that my country is the only nation on earth who declares that
a baby born on its soil is automatically an American citizen.

I am angry that the thugs that run my country don?t have the guts to
declare English my nation?s official language.

I am angry that I have to search a package for English and push a button
on every telephone system and ATM machine to continue in English.

I am angry that Washington, D.C.?s Metro is now being pressured to
replace every station sign with bilingual verbiage to the tune of
millions of dollars. Are bilingual road signs going to be the next
mandated law of the land? I am currently forced to pay for voting
ballots printed in 15 different languages and my tax dollars pay for
interpreter services for people who are summoned to court for breaking
laws. If English is the international language of the world, why isn?t
it good enough to be the official language of the United States?

I am angry when I am told I am a bigot when I thumb my nose at political
correctness.

I am angry when I wonder whether an expressed belief or opinion could
land me in litigation if someone doesn?t like what I said and wants to
silence my voice.

I am angry that diversity and sensitivity training is being forced on
people whose only crime is to dare to speak freely.

I am angry that the symbols, customs, and roots of my Judeo-Christian
country are being systematically outlawed because my culture offends
newcomers. When we freely choose to go somewhere, are we not accepting
the customs and cultures of that place? I am weary of being made to feel
guilty for being an American.

And finally, I am angry that after working my entire adult life, I don?t
see retirement in my life?s picture. My husband and I earn over a
hundred thousand dollars a year, but by the time we pay federal taxes,
state taxes, social security taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, excise
taxes, energy taxes, telecommunication taxes, savings taxes, fees,
permits, etc., there isn?t much left. But please don?t think that I mind
supporting every deadbeat and down-and-outer with his hand out for a
piece of my pie that I worked so hard for. I love supporting the world.
After all, it?s the American way, isn?t it?

With these 5 success factors, you’ll never feel like a pushy salesperson and lose the friendship and respect of your family and friends. Talking about your MLM business with these rules will always guide you to say the right thing.

Forget for a second that you’re in network marketing. What if you were starting any other kind of business like a retail store, a salon or a construction company. Where would you get your customers? Your employees? How about business partners? Where would you find them?

In one or more of those categories a friend, acquaintance or family member might be the right fit, maybe not. Maybe they know the right fit. Somehow it always works itself back to an acquaintance, a recommendation or a referral. In MLM, this is called your “warm market.”

Life seems to be a series of experiences brought on by connections to other people. Your job as a Networker is to connect the bridges together and move past the disinterested in a professional and honest way, without “pushing.” Most all businesses begin this way.

Your warm market can be one of the greatest resources to your MLM business. Dealing with family and friends can be a blessing or a curse, but if you want your family and friends to continue to respect you, give you referrals, be your customer, and possibly say “yes” to your presentation, I recommend you follow these 5 rules when working with your warm market:

RULE 1. Hold your tongue. Don’t ever insult someone for his or her decision not to participate with you in your business. Don’t tell someone they’re stupid for not doing business with you, even if it is the way you “talk to your brother.” It’s unprofessional and out of place.

RULE 2. Be wise. “No” rarely means no. That same brother in three weeks or three years could lose his job. If you’ve made a fool out of yourself, not only will he not do the business, he will beat you to all of your friends and tell them about the “scam” you’re in. All of this because “you told him” how stupid he was. That’s not wise.

RULE 3. Deal with it. For 10 years I’ve dealt with objections, concerns, past failures, bad experiences, etc., which have all taught me how to successfully handle these issues. Just as an experienced dentist knows that treating teeth is the easy part and the hard part is dealing with the patient’s “baggage” (like the time the other dentist stuck a six-foot needle in their gum when they were 14 years old), “dealing” with these issues is what “wins” the patient. Once the trust is established, you’ve got them for life or until you decide to stop servicing their needs.

RULE 4. Yes or No. Some prospects just take one conversation to be won and some prospects take 10 conversations (nine of those conversations resulted in a “No” answer even though “No” was never stated). If you take the thought process as being that either the prospect says “Yes” or “No,” then you’ll miss the art of communication and networking.

Suppose your company has 20 products. If your prospect says “No,” find out what they are saying “No” to. Are they saying “No” to all 20 products? Are they saying “No” to “I don’t want to diversify my income?” “No” to “I don’t know anyone who needs or wants any of your 20 products?” That’s a lot to say “No” to! I recommend that you find out exactly what your prospects are truly saying “No” to.

RULE 5. Don’t be a bug. Do not ever “bug” family and friends about your MLM business. Sometimes Networkers get extremely focused, which is good, and it should never be suppressed. Focus is what creates “eliteness.” Just be disciplined as to what and who deserves that focus. If it’s a friend or family member who clearly isn’t interested, quit wasting time there and go get in front of people who do want to be a part of your MLM business or a product consumer.

Your warm market is an important part of your business. Abuse it and pretty soon you’ll notice they don’t return your phone calls anymore. Keep these 5 rules in mind and get the proper MLM training to be effective at communicating with your warm market, and you will see that you can have a successful business and keep the respect of your family and friends.

And there you have it, 5 rules to follow when working with your friends and family.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim Sales

There are many elements to successful selling including a captivating opener, good communication and presentation skills, and strong closing tactics. Perhaps one of the most important factors in successful selling is your power to persuade. Persuasion should run through all of the elements mentioned above, the opening, the presentation and even the close. Persuading successfully means creating language, presentations and an overall tactical approach that all lead to your prospect saying “yes.”

In this article we will discuss how you can make your language more persuasive. Improving your communication skills in this way will result in your creating a more effective sales presentation.

WIIFM
Do you speak on the same frequency on which your prospect listens? Many sales reps have a rigid routine from which they never deviate, they suspend talk of benefits they reach a certain point, every time. The problem with this technique is that you will likely lose your prospect by the time you start to talk about things that actually matter to him or her.

From the time your proposition begins, you should be speaking in terms of WIIFM, What’s in it for me? You cannot wait until you have reached a special point in your presentation: in a warm sales situation your prospects will quickly lose interest, even if he or she continues to listen politely, it will be hard to bring them back. In a cold calling situation, you may not even have this much, a click of the dial tone will shortly follow a weak opening.

Desired End States
This is a concept that goes beyond the movement that took us from features to benefits. Certainly, it is a great deal more effective to tell a prospect about the whiter whites a special chemical in your detergent will bring, rather than actually describing the chemical in scientific terms. However, you get one step closer to the sale when you focus on the desired end states.

To describe desired end states I will expand upon the detergent example above. My time working at a large consumer packaged goods corporation gave me insight into one of the greatest discoveries that the sales profession has ever seen, and the detergent companies were among the first to apply it

you may remember a long time ago when detergent ads looked like something from a science class? They would have an official looking man wearing a white coat pointing at a graphic illustration that explained scientific principle behind some mysterious chemical that would make your clothes sparkle. Today, these ads are completely different. You will see a popular young man arm in arm with a beautiful woman or a happy looking family doing cartwheels in a meadow.

Why the new direction? Instead of explaining benefits, these savvy sellers decided to base their ads around desired end states. The term refers to the feeling a person gets when he or she is using the product in question. Its effects go far beyond benefits. It is simply more persuasive to conjure the feeling a person will get when using your product or service as opposed to just discussing the technical steps involved.

So using our example of detergent, they will show a woman who does laundry for her family having fun with them in an open field, conjuring the feeling of a wonderful day spent with her family in a beautiful, clean environment. Also, they may show a man with lots of friends and a beautiful girlfriend who doesn’t have to worry about not receiving social acceptance because his clothes are always fresh and clean.

If you can create sales presentations that focus on the WIIFM and desired end states from the very beginning, you will have your prospect’s attention from the very beginning. The result of this will be a more persuasive presentation.

Propose a hardware purchasing strategy?
Based on Holmes’ (2007) article, propose a hardware purchasing strategy.

Buy the best you can afford for your IT needs
Mike Holmes. Business Day. Johannesburg: Aug 20, 2007. pg. 2

New IT equipment often needs post-sale support. Yet this is seldom provided. So it's worth taking the trouble to seek out a supplier who does offer how-to training. It's important to find an IT supplier who acts more like a service provider. Someone who can partner with you, understand your business, and ensure that you buy the right equipment. This would come at a price. Sometimes business owners decide to replace IT equipment quite unnecessarily, says Neil Evans of Computer Troubleshooters in Randburg. When a problem arises they may conclude that the equipment is faulty, outdated or no longer able to do the job. But frequently the solution often involves better environmental or equipment use and not the replacement of expensive machines or parts. The franchise company concentrates on service, not sales, says Evans. So it can advise clients on the best hardware components or software applications for their requirements. The technician builds up a relationship with the client. In this way he is able to offer services and advice that is appropriate to the business and its budget. nThis is the final article in a series on How to Avoid Pitfalls in Business Purchases.

Currently owned by the John Hay Whitney’s estate, it sold for $104.1 million at an auction in New York’s Sotheby’s in 2004. Sotheby’s originally estimated a pre-sale worth of $70 million. Many of the worlds experts in the art industry speculated that the painting’s high sale price has much more to do with the artist’s name than with the historical importance of the painting itself.

5. Bal au moulin de la Galette, Montmartre by Pierre-Auguste Renoir – $122.8 Million

Commonly known as Le Moulin de la Galette, this wonderful work by the famous French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir was painted in 1876 at the Mus?d’Orsay in Paris. Bal au Moulin de la Galette, Montmartre is a smaller version of an impressionist painting Renoir painted of the same name.

4. Portrait of Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh – $129.7 Million

Again, Vincent van Gogh graces our list with one of the most expensive works of art of all time. This portrait of Gachet was painted just outside Paris in 1890, and depicts his then doctor, Paul Gachet. Gachet, who looked after Vincent during the artist’s last months. Gachet was an hobby artist and became good friends with Van Gogh.

3. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt – $137.6 Million

The partner to the previously described piece of art. This is the first portrait of Adel Bloch-Bauer Klimt and was painted in 1907. According to reports, it was sold in June 2006 for $135 million to Ronald Lauder for his gallery in New York City. At that time it set a record as the most expensive painting ever sold.

2. Woman III by Willem de Kooning – $140.2 Million

Painted in 1953 by the abstract expressionist painter Willem de Kooning this fantastic piece is one of 6 paintings by Kooning in which the central theme was a woman. Woman III was sold by David Geffen in November 2006 to the billionaire Steven A. Cohen for a reported $137.5 Million.

1. No. 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock – $142.7 Million

Finally, we come to the most valuable art to date, No. 5,1948 by the artist Jackson Pollock. This abstract art, painted in 1948, was created on a 8 x 4 feet sheet of fiberboard, with large amounts of thick brown and yellow paint drizzled on top of it, forming a chaotic nest-like appearance. This work of art was sold by David Geffen in 2006 for $140 Million making it the most valuable piece of art ever sold.

So, as you can see, there is some vastly valuable works of art in the art industry being sold. I am certain you are asking yourself “What about other pieces of older art?” All of these wondrous pieces of art in this list were painted after 1800. Any art previous to this date is usually in the hands of museums across the world. The Mona Lisa, as an example, was insured in 1962 for around $100 Million. When we consider the rate of inflation it is fair to assume that its current worth would be around $670 Million today. However, it is unlikely you will ever see this majestic smile in Christie’s or Sotheby’s anytime soon.

If you have been inspired by these items and would like to see more. Thankfully you do not have to pay anywhere near these prices if you would like a copy of these items on your wall! You can discover wonderful reproductions of each of these items in many sizes, formats and mediums on our Arteblanche.com website. We have one of the world’s largest inventories of art from the popular artists in this list to unknown artists and cover every aspect and work of art imaginable. We hope you have found this article informative and as inspiring as we did in writing this.

“How To Make Your Direct Marketing Writing Efforts Walk, Talk, And Breathe”

4 Strategies Every Health, Fitness, and Small Business Owner Should Know About To Win With Customers, Clients, And Champions

Now here are some ways to help you to perfect, polish, and strengthen your writing efforts. Apply these tools to your tool box and you’ll create writing that walks, talks, and breathes!

Use A Thesaurus

Obvious, isn’t it? You’ve probally used a thesaurus at some time or another. Most writers use it for the wrong reasons they still think writing has to be intellectual. In my experience making things to complex for my audience to read turns them off. Keeping things simple seems to always work best for results. Use a thesaurus to keep your writing simple and direct. Afterall, we are not writing to one another well at least I think we aren’t or are we?

Use a Simile Book

A simile, by the way, is a phrase used to compare two different ideas. For example: “as compelling as a gun to your head” that is using a simile. A simile can give your reader a nice jolt they might be reading along and suddenly you make a comparison that surprises him. Thats electrifying! When using similes, try and make your own words. Add this to your tool box of tricks and watch your readership increase.

Use a Book Of Analogies

“Become a writing wizard.” Turn your writing into spells no mortal can resist!”
Find books that inspire you to create power writing. Certainly when you do you’ll find words tickling your mind into creating juicy new phrases. One must read is: The Analogy Book of Related Words By Selma Glasser. Use this book as your word- storming partner and watch the excitement of your crowd soar Guaranteed!

Use a Book Of Quotes

If anything else lets face it Quotes look good on page, don’t they?

Let us resolve to be masters, not victims , of our history, controlling our own destiny without giving way to blind suspicions and emotions.

– John F. Kennedy

Two reasons to use quotes are they are visually appealing and they create dialogue and dialogue is alive. Try these strategies out for size and have fun with your writing the rest will take care of it self.

Subliminal communication works at the subconscious level because the subsconscious mind seems to accept things without judgement. This is different from the conscious mind which judges everything.

So if I communicated to your conscious mind that you are holding a juicy apple you would know immediately that I was talking rubbish because you would see that it’s an onion.

Your subconscious mind, however, might just believe it’s an apple and you might just bite into it and taste it as an apple.

That is subliminal communication and it can be very powerful. Just watch Mentalists (people who create the illusion of mindreading or psychic ability) on TV. They are very adept at subliminal communication by keeping your conscious mind busy and ‘planting’ messages into your subsconscious mind.

This is also the basis for the many self-hypnosis and self-help CDs on the market today. Many of them very good.

The story goes that in the 1960s a cinema in the US spliced a frame or two over the face of a famous actress, Kim Novak, giving the command ‘go buy some coke and popcorn’. According to the cinema owner sales of coke and popcorn went up by some 60%.

Not long afterward ’subliminal advertising’ such as this was made illegal in the US. You can buy many books on the market today that write about subliminal advertising and how big companies are still using it.

Anyhow this is not our focus. Our focus is on how to use subliminal communication in an ethical way. In a way that will help young people move forward in a positive way and achieve.

If our subconscious mind accepts and stores everything without discrimination then it would be possible to load it with positive thoughts which would in turn lead to positive beliefs which would in turn tlead to positive actions. And of course lead to positive results.

Here are some ideas for you to consider.

If you are not already doing so, change the way you act, talk, teach, communicate with your students. Communicate positively with every single one of them in a way that tells them that you have total confidence in them and their abilities(even though you might not have). Your body language and tone of voice is over 90% of your overall communication. The subconscious mind can pick up on body language especially if it incongruent with what you are actually saying.

Cover the walls of your classroom with everything that is positive. Posters with motivational pictures and words. Inspirational quotations from great people. Positive paintings, drawings, prose, poems, done by your students. Create stereograms that have hidden positive words. Check out subliminal communication at the website shown below.

Embed positive words in everything that you write and talk about.

Create a positive word for the day and start a discussion on it. Apply it to positive case studies, role models. For example – ‘Winning’ – Roger Bannister, won against cancer, won Tour de France Race 7 times and won the hearts and minds of charities and young people with his coloured rubber wrist bands.

Create a class dictionary of positive words. Start with an A – Z template and get your students to add positive words to the template. Make it big and put it on the wall. By the end of year you will probably have a positive word for most letters and a story to go with each. No matter what your subject at school you will be able to connect a story to the word to the letter.

A month or two back I was in an online discussion with someone who had had an article of theirs printed and quoted from without their permission, and without the proper copyright notice. The author was up in arms and was wondering what to do about it.

No matter how much inventory you have, or how large your customer base, the viability of your business depends on the flow of your thinking, your creativity, your presence. What do you do when someone steals your hard work?

Send a thank-you note.

Remember the Grateful Dead? I was never a big fan, more into punk myself, but I was always intrigued by friends who had dozens and dozens of “bootlegs” of Dead shows- recordings they personally made, or bought from someone else.

What many people don’t know about the Grateful Dead is that early on they made a decision to treat the band as a business, and made many decisions to leverage their success, without compromising their values.

They noticed that their fans were recording their shows. Unlike many other bands and industries that tried to stop this nefarious activity (remember Napster?), the Dead encouraged it. Why?

Have you ever tried to act like someone else? How long could you keep it up? The last time I unconciously started writing like someone I admired, I started getting unsubscribes and complaints like crazy, and I had to come back to my own authenticity in a hurry.

The Dead, by smiling at bootleggers who were making “unofficial” copies of the shows, were actually encouraging the growth of community. More people attended their shows just to record bootlegs. It created a “collection” mindset. It was a big deal to say that you had a particular bootleg, and even more of coup to say that you had been at that show.

And, their official records, more than 50 live and studio releases, were a part of the ‘collection mania’ and had strong, profitable sales over 30+ years.

Instead of spending your time and energy trying to police your “intellectual property rights,” put your attention on your heart and your authenticity, and encourage others to make the best use of your materials and ideas. Trust that your customers can tell your authentic presence from someone else who is just riding in your draft.

Are there times when it’s worth it to protect your stuff?

Keys to Hippie Protectionism

• It’s not thieving to be in the morphic field.

Biologist Rupert Sheldrake originated the “morphic field” theory in modern science (something that has been observed spiritually for eons). The basic theory is this: genetics alone doesn’t explain why a plant grows in a particular form. Why do oak leaves all have basically the same shape?

Sheldrake advanced a holistic theory that “morphic fields” hold the pattern for structures. In a similar way, it’s not uncommon to find scientists, writers, researchers all working independently on similar ideas, remote from each other. Read his article.

If you are “inspired” by a particular idea, and you notice others taking up the flag as well, don’t fret about being stolen from, or someone getting “there” faster than you. Instead, rejoice that the morphic field is making your inspiration more accessible and understandable to the general public.

• Creative Commons Licensing

Instead of a regular strict copyright, you can use the Creative Commons licensing approach to be more flexible and generous in approaching your “intellectual property.”

In their own words: “Creative Commons offers a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors and artists. We have built upon the ‘all rights reserved’ of traditional copyright to create a voluntary ’some rights reserved’ copyright. We’re a nonprofit. All of our tools are free.”

For more information, check them out. http://creativecommons.org/

• Wholesale stealing of your entire show.

I have seen instances when someone has copied a website completely, word-for-word, including the free give-aways and bonuses. I always feel a little sad the very, very few times I’ve seen or heard of this, because someone is so clearly shut-down in their heart, and feeling desperate. Their business won’t last sustainably like that, but it is good to take official notice so you don’t have problems later on.

In these instances it’s often easy to send a note to them telling them you’ve noticed them and they need to cease and desist. If they don’t respond, you can look up their website registration on Whois.

Generally, an email sent to the company where they have registered their domain name will result in some action.

If you want to track certain words and phrases on the web, you can use Google Alerts.

However, this is an extreme case, and you will probably not encounter it.

Let your heart rest easy about “borrowers.” Stay in your authenticity, keep letting your heart move you forward, and rejoice that what you are inspired by is resonating so strongly with other people. This means you probably have a very viable and profitable market for your business.
